Hi Guys, Kind of suzi related as it will drill holes in mine. To be honest I didn't know where else to post it. I just bought an old 3 phase Waldown pedestal drill. It currently runs a 0.75hp 3 phase motor with a 16mm shaft. As I'm a renter I want to swap in a single phase motor. The closest I can find to the spec for physical sizing and RPM is in the ebay link below. The problem is the shaft is 18mm instead of 16mm and it is 1.5HP, twice the original rating. Is it as easy as dropping my pulley off to have the shaft bored to 18mm and the keyway reinstated? Also are there any major issues with running twice the power? Bearing supply joints will have a huge range of new pulleys you can choose from. |

Ring an Electric motor company, CMG or WEG from memory, there are heaps. Most won't sell direct but will put you in the right direction. You will be able to buy a single phase motor exactly the same size as the 3 phase |

Thanks guys. I'll check both those avenues. I think the original 3 phase motor is actually a CMG unit. |

+1 for finding a motor company i found one when swapping out a motor on a table saw , was as easy as taking the old one in with me and choosing between the china made one or Italian made, most machine shops should be able to point you in the direction of what you want |

To be legal the motor swap should be done by a licensed electrician and a certificate of compliance issued. I'm not saying that I agree with the rules, just pointing them out. |

1.5hp is a little overkill for a drill press, especially with gearing. 1/2 to 3/4hp should be fine. Just match rpm's and rotation direction. |

I would go for a 920 rpm motor myself as you need slower speeds in a drill press for drilling thicker steel. Look at www.Roycecross.com.au (yes that is a website, no really it is) they have them for sale |
