Can you do a rear main seal in a suzuki sierra g13a motor if you pull the gear box out of the car on a hoist. Ijust wanted to know .Or do you have to pull the motor to bits .

you can do one by pulling the gearbox on a hoist. all you have to do is remove the clutch and flywheel aswell.

While your in there have a look at your clutch condition. If its shagged get your flywheel machined aswell as a new clutch kit. In the kit you should get new spigot bearing and throwout bearing aswell!

any tips or guide before i start to try to replace the rear main seal? I am a beginner and need some pointer like where to even start....

If you have to ask questions on doing a rear main I'd suggest you get help of a mechanic. That way you get a warranty with all work done. Otherwise best bang for buck go to supercheap and buy a Sierra manual, a trolley jack, couple of axle stands, a good socket and spanner set, a good breaker bar. Study, study, study the manual. It's actually a really easy job for someone who is mechanically mInded. But that book gives u step by step procedure and worth every cent you pay. Keep it under your seat so if you ever break down just have a skim through the manual!

i just went to get the tools and a pair of jack stands. cant find the manual

Can i remove my transmission and replace the seals directly?

Just make sure you get someone else under there with ya. I can quite easily pull out a box but putting it back in normally takes 2 people. Once she is ready to come free. Remove the extractors or exhaust manifold of the engine.Leave one bolt through the bellhousing. Lightly jack the front of the engine up with a block of timber under ur sump. This aids in removal of the box. Get ur 2nd person to look in the engine bay for any taught wires/hoses etc.

Being a beginner I strongly suggest you get someone to help you just manipulating the box out and in. Also a 2nd person makes a great tool chucker. Nothing worse when a tool is out of reach. The 1st thing you should do when under the car is make sure it's chocked very well. Chock every wheel if you want!!

i don't have access to a hoist so its a little different, but i found it waaay easier to just remove the whole engine/box in one hit. more to do with laziness as i didnt want to have to lift the box up under the car afterwards. not much good if you dont have an engine crane though... but it does allow a lot more access to it all.

x2 on the second person, yeah 1 is enough to get the box out (i did my vit on the ground lifting the gearbox and transfer out, a sierra being divorced would be much lighter. I did get a mate to help lift it all back in
