Post subject:  My new 1995 vitara LWB
Hi all, just put a deposit on a Suzuki vitara LWB, it's the v6 model in a manual.
Was hoping to do some traveling with it. Due to limited cab space, is this car likely to be able to tow a small lightweight camper trailer?
I'm thinking along the lines of a basic 2 inch lift with 29 inch mud tyres, tube front bar with a winch (unsure of what size winch will be enough without being too much) and maybe a rear bar at some stage.
I've been considering a small lightweight tool box in the back (behind the seats for rifles, as I also hunt), a cargo barrier so the dog can stay in the back and then a small light weight camper, maybe something like a light weight dingo camper.
That way I can keep the weight spread out without being overloaded and cramped up in the cab. Sleeping gear, clothes, engel and lightweight cookware in the camper.
Am I asking to much of this little car?
If so I will be making it my daily driver and bush car until I can buy something a little bigger.

bam, here is one i prepared earlier. 8)

slightly taller & running on 31's with a roof top tent on a 5x3.5 trailer, 29's & 2" lift would be ideal for a touring wagon.

they've only got a tow rating of 450kgs, my trailer came in at 320kgs.

Wow that was quick, thanks very much.
Well that is pretty much what I was aiming for.
Was considering 3 inch lift and 30's but figured without the steal housing conversion, I might be running into reliability issues.
Just trying to keep it simple and as close to standard and practicle as possible. Still want to be able to tackle the challenging stuff with out break downs.
Is that trailer independent or solid axle and what sort of tent is it. Is it big enough to sleep myself and 2 kids and still have room for cooking and what not?
Any more info appreciated

trailer is solid axle still on slipper springs for now & it's just a roof top tent, mattress is 1400x2400 when open, not really for suitable for cooking in.

i generally tend to set up a little 3 sided half dome tent gazebo type thing to cook under if staying in the one spot & the weather is a bit iffy.

I been thinking of ideas for a annexe type thing on mine,
a separate thing like that could be better.

Cam my trailer weighs similarly, maybe a bit lighter.
Only pulling mine with a 1.6 auto.
It could possibly struggle if adding kids and extra weight.
But the V6 will have no issue.

atari whats that shelter like to setup?
looks similar to a dome tent but with just 3 sides - whats it like in the wind?

yeah 3 sided dome tent, cross over bendy poles, pretty easy to set up... feed 1/3 of the pole into the sleeves & clip the rest on.

NFI on the wind situation, i guess with enough guy ropes it would stay put. i run 2 extra poles so i can have it free standing & use guy ropes to tie it down as they're designed to be suction cupped to the car.

Yeah thanks for the replies guys.
I am considering building my own lightweight camper trailer using the oztrail camper 6.
Not planning to carry a lot of wait so hopefully lighter grade steel will save a lot of wait. Just want to make sure the car will be upto it before I go ahead. I'm beginning to wonder if there will be enough room in the back even for my dog, not that he is that big.
I will be inspecting the car hopefully tomoz so will make the judgement call then.
I also have a few questions for other vit owners.
Will a tigerz11 8000 be enough for a LWB vit and camper?
Are there any decent tube bars available that provide good protection and approach angles?
With a basic 2 inch lift and 29 inch mud tyres cause any problems with front diff, axles or scrubbing?
Or could I maybe go 30inch?

Or could I maybe go 30inch? Starting to push your luck without body lift, but doable with the right offset and some panel massaging.
