Iam trying make up my mind which way would be the best, my engine has done about 360,000km and still going strong and need to replace the timing belt but would it be better to replace the motor for a good 2nd hand one or replace the belt

i assume replacing the belt will be allot cheaper than an engine lo. The question is are you happy with the performance and the reliability with so many ks on it. Try chatting country wide suzuki on the gold coast, they do cheap engine swaps for the jimny with the swift 1.5 or the swift sport 1.6L if you are seriously considering spending the $$$ |

yea its a g13bb, the only thing i can hear is the valves tapping. i would love to put a more powerful engine in it but i dont have that sort of money atm. |

Another option is a low k Baleno block and head and run all your jimny intake/exhaust gear on it. Will need adaptor plate to gearbox and exhaust may have to be modded because baleno block is wider at gearbox mount. Vitara starter motor or customise your one(not sure what jimny starters look like) Existing wiring should run the motor fine And a mod plate in qld. |

sounds like to much mucking around would be easyer to just buy a whole engine and do a straight swap. Is there any 2L engines that fit?? |

Unfortiently there's no straight swap unless your putting a original engine back in. If you don't have the money, I would stop thinking about a engine conversion right now. |

thats wat i thought. wat about replacing all the seals, gaskets, o-rings, valves (vrs kit) or is the engine swap still cheaper |

The only time that one should be considered is when weighing up between rebuilding your motor, or swapping for something bigger. Do the timing belt($60), fit a new water pump($90), cam and crankshaft seals($30), new fan belt, do a service, and keep driving it. Labour should be about 3hrs. |

The g16b swap will be a tiny bit more work than another g13b. I know which way i would go, but if you dont want to listen, no worries. Go find another g13b and put it in. Kms doesnt matter because these motors seem randomly worn. A motor at 360k running nice is rare with zooks |

thanks FATZOOK thats the way iam prob gonna go for now. Bluesuzy the g16b (1.6L iam guessing) i would love to do that and chuck a rotrex super charger or something on it but the minister of finance wouldnt be to happy lol but wen it finaly dies i will look into fitting the g16b if its not that hard to do. |

Yup I'd save the coin, if your current g13bb ain't broke... Don't fix it! Save the coin ang go 1.6. I also have the g13bb and it's done it's fair share of hard work with kms showing around the 370k mark. Now I have replaced/upgraded just about everything that can be done so far...... Except the engine. After the suspension/tyre combo and transfer gearing I am at a point where I will hold off on lockers until I make up my mind to go either strengthened jimny diffs/chromos or 4 linked hilux diffs. Either way it will run bigger tyres again and definitely a 1.6efi, then the million dollar question.... To force feed or N/A? Time will tell .... But definitely I think the 1.6 could possibly be one of the biggest advantages to be had over the g13bb. Getting a little tired of the gutless weazbag of a 1.3! |
