Post subject:  rebuilding my F10a engine
so im rebuilding my F10a engine after having a few problems with it loss of compression and running very badly and a very slight oil leak 4 litres per week. so im rebuilding it
i just got my cylinder head back from the shop today very happy how its come out and not a to bad price of $350 for a full reco and straighten.
will be taking the block out of the car this weekend and getting quotes on how much it will be and what it would need this week

ok so i took my block to work this week to pull it apart and give her a wash. there was soo much oil on it i couldnt even get a grip on the oil filter to under and with a rag on worries it span off like a peice of cake.
i was suprised how clean the engine was i was thinking that it was gonna be abit more dirty.
the main bearing bolts that came out of it were shocking thick oil coated them like mud.
all the engine main and big end bearings are in very good condition slight wear marks (replacing anyways)
crankshaft was very clean chucked it into the hot wash at work and came out brand new
the only thing thats in bad condition with my little engine is the cylinder bores (dont have a pic yet of them)

well i just picked up my block today and shes had abit of work done to her. i got it dipped so its all to bare metal and all clean now, its been bored out 20 thou im pretty sure, the crank has been ground and all bearing have been over sized due to abit to much wear on the crank shaft so all bearing caps have been machined to suit and con rods to, the block is getting decked on monday at my work just to skim it and make it straight if its not, sump and rocker cover have been dipped too.

anyways enough of the crap heres some pics

i have to find out what the exact size it is now to work out litreage it could be a true 1000cc engine now or more pompoms

If the crank has been ground you will use undersize bearings on the main and rod journals but it is EXTREMELY unlikely that any machining was done to the main caps or the conrods.
A line bore of mains is expensive and time consuming, not needed on a simple reco.
Rod resizing is pretty common but it won't effect bearing size.

nah mate its all been done this engine rebuilder i went to my work sends him engines and were all freinds and hes looked after me really well on this build but its coming up amazinly im soo excited to put it back in my zook and give her a run and take her up some tracks :D

I can see on the main journals where the old bearing shell used to sit , so no it hasn't had a line bore

yeh your right it didnt have that done but everything else it had done just got all the rest of my bits back friday.
we also decked my block the other night only took 4 thou off just to clean it up abit didnt want to do anything serious to it

4 thou is 0.1mm. I mention this because I spoke to an F10 owner who had 1mm taken off the head and had major detonation problems.

There's no way a head should be decked 1mm unless the pistons/stroke is reduced in height to compensate from what I have read.

FWIW I have an F8a head (same thing as f10a with a different front oil seal setup) with 1mm taken off it. It works out at 9.5:1 cr IIRC.

No it doesn't.

I have 2 F8a heads and 2 F10a heads on my bench and the ports are all the same.
