Post subject:  Had enough! Vit commo shocks???

Hi guys,

Been running my SWB vitara on the dobinsons 2" lift from dank for some time now.. extended struts yadayada yada.. I have grown sick of it being to stiff and Im Looking for ways to retain my lift but change the springs.

So, If i put my stock springs back in, where can I find 25mm/50mm coil spacers to get it upto height again? done a couple of searches and could only find 15/30..

OR.. what softer springs are there that I can swap straight in??..

Cheapest way out perffered.

Cheers, Mark!

Yep I can help. I make spacers to suit 99.9% of all 4x4s from 10mm to 50mm

No and really not worth it cause there is no call for it and I think the rear's are leaf and the front of coil over.

Are you sure its your springs, and not your tyre air pressure, to much air in them can give a very stiff/harsh ride...

Most spring manufacturers, make springs with different rates, Comfort, Performance/Light load, Med load, and Constant load...

Lifted springs will always be better than stock springs and spacers, they just wont have the same amount of travel or performance, stocks are basically road springs... maybe just buy some comfort lifted springs... :D

Post subject:  Re: Had enough!

Mark Dobinsons occasionally get this complaint from some customers and they have had good success in ride quality changes by swapping out the shocks for an ultima shock or stockish brand replacement shock with softer valving. So it's not the coils in alot of cases. The shocks with the kit are a big bore shock so if you havent got a lot of weight or accessories this is what you might be finding that the shock damping rate is a bit much.

Only an idea that I have discussed with dobinsons in the past but thought you'd like to know.

True dat ^^^

I was running Tough Dog lifted GV coils and shocks in the rear, was spine-compactingly harsh with an empty boot. Swapped the shocks out for some Ranchos, now it's a million times better.

Alot of ranchos that suit zooks will cross reference to a dual shock application from a F truck so they are not a bad option.

thanks for the replies guys..

Have already ordered coil spacers though.. I will swap the shocks out to the stock ones just to see if it is actually the shocks or not..and then buy some others if it is and could probably sell the coil spacers off.
no biggy.

will post progress :)

Post subject:  Re: Had enough!

swapped out the rear shockies to the stock ones and made a really good improvement! Thanks for the info Dank and others!

Now, have you guys that have swapped out the dobinsons shocks for others also swapped the front struts?

What shocks should I buy now?... was thinking of just going with the commodore ones because I want to do this on the cheap, whilst still getting as much comfort as possible.

would appreciate some insight =]

Cheers, Mark.

Commonwhore seem to be the best bet for budget and soft-ish ride.

i rate the ride with the commy shocks in the bum of the vits, although i've never used any of the name brand big bore shocks they just seem like overkill

Post subject:  Re: Had enough! Vit commo shocks???

Hey guys, done a heap of reading about commo shocks in the rear of vits... bloody confusing!

What part number would i be looking for when wanting shockers to suit a 2" lift for the rear of my vit!??
any that will fit that have the same rubber bush sizing? would be nice:) lol..but no biggy , can always swap em.

Hope you can help! Mark.

Post subject:  Re: Had enough! Vit commo shocks???

ask for vp/vn ones, you have to make a sleeve for the bush for them to fit

iv run the dobinsons coils and these shocks for more than a year and ride is very nice and flexes well

Fronts are struts and you need actual vitara ones for the front.
