Whilst I am looking into rear disc conversions, I thought now would be the time to do full floating axle conversion if it will improve things. Both my rear bearings are flogged out and water damaged. Will these issues go away with a FFA? |

you will get better life from the bearings, but only if you service them as much as you drive through crap. You can kill many birds with one stone running full floaters. |

Ok, from what I can see, they are much easier to service (or rather, can be serviced), which is a serious benefit. Zanfi has 2 kits. A 26 spline replacement and an uprated/upsized kit. I haven't broken a rear axle, even on 32 Trekkers, so I can't see that I need the bigger ones(?) Joe, my most common failure has been the rear 4.3 pinion breaking teeth. Would a 4.09 handle my abuse better? |

I think you need to upgrade the rear to a vit size with flaoters. I'm currently doing one for an M13 Jimny and so far so good. The axle....

Here is my last response from zanfi.it Hello Wayne, you do not need special bearings, you must install all of the front hub complete Suzuki SJ / Samurai. For the handbrake, I can send you the correct brake calipers to solve the problem, you will use your handbrake you in the cabin, OK? Hello. Zanfi Giancarlo. P.s you write Australia? Zanfi Giancarlo. This is using the standard 26 spline at the diff centre end. Is it possible to use front Jimny hub? I have a full set spare. Where does the ABS sensor fit into this equation? I assume it can just get welded in there in the correct position permanently? ere is the basic kit. http://www.zanfi.it/modules.php?name=catalog&file=product_info&cPath=63_121&products_id=1061&osCsid=9d11c1a362f777cac360cdcc7c7a30f4 |

Your better off using a Vitara front hub as the Jimny cassette type bearing can be a pain and not as readily available. As far as the ABS is concerned send me some images and let me know if the tone ring comes off the axle. |

The notched ABS sensor ring is separate. I think it was originally pressed on to the retainer. We damaged one whilst getting the retainers off the axle. May be able to save it, but if I can get another cheap then I'd rather do that. Axles are at a mate's so will rake some photos (and measurements for BenT) whenI go there next. Will Vitara hubs go straight on these, or any other FFA kit? Do you have a ready made conversion kit and what is it worth? |

Will be a little more than the Sierra one just for the axle kit. Housing, if you go that way, will be a different matter. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=20147 |

I just replaced my rear bearings and had to get new abs rings as it didn't press off the ring. |

timmy - Not entirely sure, but they are separate. At a previous LH bearing change, the ring was welded on. We broke it pressing the modified retainer off. Joe, I don't reckon I could aford a new housing, but a complete FF kit would be great. How do we do this? I have early Jimny rotors, Will these suit? Will the Vitara hubs match the original Jimny pattern and offset? Iknow very little about Vits. I thought they had different specs?? |

I'm also keen on a HyTuff set of floaters, not cause my bearing die but my current axles have a twist in the splines, and if I bust an axle I want to just be able to remove flick my locker on and get home. If your going to build a Jimny track sized floater kit I'll put my hand up for that. |

What's the pros and cons of a FF setup? Sorry for being a noob |

Stronger as the axle only supports drive. Bearing supports hub (uses front hub), id assume better bearing lifr. Serviceable bearings, rather than cutting off/pressing on. Disc conversion. Cons: $$$ in ny eyes... |

Pros: Strength, reliability, and disk rear end. Cons: someone undoing your hubs at a servo and making you look like a goose |

I believe they are the same. But GV drive flanges will be far easier to obtain. |

Ok guys. If the Jimny owners who want full floaters are serious than I have some good news. I have been in contact with BenT and my idea is as follows. I will make the axles and mounting plates all based around one of his great Galant rear disc systems. He will supply all the relevant brake hardware as per his kits such as lines, brackets etc. This way it will be a full bolt on kit that should take no more than a day to fit. This idea will also transfer to the Vitara stuff. What do you think? |

Sounds like it's a great deal in the making, I hope that some of the Jimny guys go for it. Would be cool to have rear discs and full floating rear but I don't have a need for either so will pass. Looking forward to seeing this setup on some Jimnys. |

Joe. I am very keen What I have summized I need is this... - FFA kit from Joeblow - Disc brake kit, lines and calliper from BenT - Vitara Hubs and flanges - New bearings as required edit: - Brake pads as required Have I ot that right? I would like to know though, does using the Vit hubs make the track the same as original? |

joeblow wrote: This idea will also transfer to the Vitara stuff. How far would the idea be from becoming a transfered reality? I'd be keen, and already have the BenT Galant kit fitted, so if your axles etc will retro-fit that sounds awesome. Assuming they'd be equivalent if not stronger than the Calmini HD or CroMo units? |
