ok guys i was wheelign yesterday and slammed my zooks gut on the peak of a mound

anyways after that we\hen i take off or hit a bump you can hear a big metal clanging noise at the passenger footwell

some investigations later and i find my exhaust is moving around a bit and is pressed up against the body

anyone suggest a easy fix the exhaust mounts appear to be fine

so im guessing its time to get under there and reef on the exhaust to try bend it back down as i obviously pushed it up when i gutsed it


PS was hillarious having both front and rear wheels off the ground and being bellied on a peak had to get out and rock my zook to get it off hahaha

is the actual exhaust bent? or is it just the mounts?
on mine there was a bracket ontop of the the muffler and i another on the cat that are hard to see under the car they seem to break pretty easy

i will get under this arvo when i get home from work

from memory from yesterday the mounts are okay as the rubbers where still attatched guessing maybe i have bent the zorst

im pretty happy knowing thats all it was i was a bit worried but decided fudge it and drove the 150km home

if the exhaust isn't bent you might of bent the brackets on the exhaust the rubber mounts bolt to
it might be time to make yourself a new exhaust

im trying best to no longer mod cars having built a zook, crazy mini truck then a import aristo now i have gone back to my beloved zooks

but im trying my best not to lift bigger wheels 1.6 conversion etc etc im afraid a custom zorst will lead to more evil (in the eyes of the missus that is)

i believe you might be onto something

i checked brackets and none are bent

but there is a lot of play in the exhaust and movement where the exhaust ahs the two bolts to the manifold????

its moving and banging onto the metal bracket on the chasis and the cat convertor

the same noise was on my car when i got it. i tightened the bolt in the spring engine side exhaust to manifold. that pulled the exhaust further to centre of the car and removed the free play. stopped the first muffler from hitting the chassis and stopped the noise.

dont think of a new exhaust int he noisy cannon muffler ricey sense think of it as an off road improvment.

get one made up thats above the chassis rail line for protection with a flexi pipe or sprung flange like vits have and exiting nice and high out the back and you wont have to worry about it when off road again

Those bolts that hold the downpipe to the manifold should be done up all the way. If you pull one out you will see a flange at the end of the threaded section, this part needs to sit up tight against the manifold. I'd suggest undoing the bolts, cleaning them up with a wire wheel, hit them with some anti-sieze grease then re-fit them.

There is also an exhaust bracket on the catalytic converter. I have seen quite a few Sierras that have this bracket cut to make it easier to remove the gearbox to change the clutch. You should just be able to undo the bolt in this bracket but often it us rusted up, and that's why it gets cut. If that is the case with your vehicle that may be another factor in the exhaust moving around more than it should.

Oh and a little tip for removing the downpipe bolts (or any bolts in the exhaust manifold for that matter). Start your engine and get it up to temp before you try to undo any of the manifold bolts. The heat makes it easier to get them undone, especially if the are a little rusty. Just be careful not to burn yourself though!

yes i checked the bracket at the cat as thats where i noticed the play in the rubber mount attatching to the bracket im guessing the bolts on the manifold to the exhaust are the go

i tried the one on the outside (furtherest from engine) it was tight as but inside i did not check might be best if i do


ROYCE- yeah mate i understand the guys where not refering to a ricey improvement after bottoming out it may be an option or even a lift ( missus still saying NO)

also i got hom and noticed my number plate was bent facing upwards hahahaha must have bottomed out coming out of the rut and pushed number plate up

okay so after having two exhaust places saying i need a new exhaust system

to which i proudly introduced them to my middle finger

got out a pry bar and went to town on the zorst bent it back in shape and wollah no more banging
