Highway has them, seem good at stopping the cab getting so bent out of shape.
I reckon without them a roof is a disadvantage.

You could make them bolt on. Think he is just talking about a slider up the a-pillar and across the roofline like alot of comp trucks |

I can't see how they would be a problem, but I don't know much about QLD. Mine:   They have saved my cab a number of times.  They should be far more legal than any sort of internal cage. Vic regs permit them AFAIK so long as an object with a radius over 80mm will still "roll" over the bodywork - so in total. they can project more than 80mm away from the body. Steve. |

What pipe/bends did you use Steve? I'm going to do the same thing with my LJ81 except I'l tie them in with the front body mounts too. |

I used 1" Sch 40 Steam Pipe - 33.4mm OD X 3.37mm WT Pipe and bends are readily available. Pipe was from a normal steel supply, bends were from a plumbing supply shop. The gussets to the body are 1.6mm thick. Steve. |

I am I bit worried the pipe bender wont have enough grunt to bend the pipe though.

yeah after the comp on the weekend, I figure I can save a lot of damage and be more competitive if I can slide past the trees. I want something A bit like g wagons but not down the front (even though that would be better). I recon if I come straight out from the sill and use 30-40mm water pipe it should work a treat. Im not sure if I'll go around the front or just do the sides |

Are you going to connect to an internal cage? If not, I'd strongly recommend going down the A pillars. If you get a branch in under the slider and against the windscreen frame you're going to have carnage. Steve. |

Pretty sure that in Queensland even an Exo is legal as Long as it doesn't protrude 150mm out from the body and doesn't have cross bracing in front of the windscreen well I think in the qld modification hand book it refers to external roof rack so can't c there would be much difference to roof slider just call them roof racks and you should be within the guidelines |

IM doing the roof sliders thing, i'll be tieing into the internal cage, down the a pillar and fixing through the body again just at the bottom of the a pillar. if you tie it onto the body well enough you can easily use small tube. aaron uses 30 NB i believe |

when you welded in the bends steve, did you use internal sleeves? or just butt weld it all together? i am thinking of doing the same but i feel like i should put internals inside to give it a bit more strength and a bit more to weld to? interested in your thoughts |

No, I didn't use internal sleeves. Bear in mind though in my application the cage is fully welded to the cab, not possible with a soft top. However, there still should be no need for sleeves - Sch 40 pipe is very heavy wall compared to most roll cage tubing. Sleeves are only normally used for repair. Steve |

yeah ok then. i see what you mean the cab and the cage help hold each other together. i would be welding it to my a pillar along the top of my doors and on the b pillar down to the floor and also over the back as well. that way i can keep the soft top (maybe with some modding) and only really the a pillar section will be immediatly visible. im not one for taking off the windscreen or anything so it doesnt really worry me. |
