Post subject:  Transfer Troubles

So rebuilding my 1l SWB and the transfer is shagged, gears missing teeth ect.., also there is for some reason no parts inside the hand brake drum all handbrake parts i have is the lever and cable with both parts of the drum.
My question is should i just buy a 1l transfer case with handbreak fitted or get a 1.3 swap the flanges and then a handbrake assembly as well, still running NT diffs and hopefully in the future would like to run 31's with 6.5's or what ever is the gear set down from that 5.7's?. And my current t-case is non switch.
Cheers Doug.

You can't fit 1.3 flanges to a non-switch case, or vice versa. If you are going to get some ratio of reduction gears later on, they will only fit a switch case (1.0 or 1.3).

The handbrake internals and backing plate are the same on LJ50, 80, 1.0ltr and NT 1.3. The yoke bolt pattern and splines on the drums vary between models.

So you can find a NT 1.3 case for now and use the handbrake internals with your non switch 1.0 case, but the drum or splines are different. Later on, you can fit your reduction gears to the 1.3 case and re-install the handbrake stuff to it, but the yoke pattern on the drum will be different to your 1.0 driveshaft yokes.
