Hi all I'm in the process of fitting a G16B out of a 2001 auto Grand Vitara to my brothers 95 sierra. Is there anyone here in Australia that can do the wiring part of the conversion with everything working including the VSS hooked up or am i better off sending it to these guys in the US http://www.trailtough.com ?? I have the complete donor car and have completely stripped it so i have every single wire and sensor from the Vitara and the Dash if its applicable for the VSS install or does this have to come from a LWB Vitara?? Any help is greatly appreciated Cheers guys, Ivan. |

Why not do it yourself? There is info on here if you search, and just ask questions if you get stuck. |

X2. Do it yourself. It's not that mysterious. AFAIK the US never had G16B grand vitaras, and their wiring is likely to be a bit different so TT might be groping around in the dark a bit. Cant comment on the VSS, but I'd imagine GV's use an electronic speedo rather than a cable drive, so I doubt the VSS is applicable. Steve. |

PM highway star. he did the wiring in his GV g16 they have issues with the imobilisor wiring from memory |

The GV motor will run without the VSS... but its about the easiest part of the damn GV wiring to nut out, so may as well hook it up. Get the VSS sensor itself from a 1.6L EFI SE416 Vitara (its in the speedo cluster); or make one (JrZook did a thread on here I believe). And do note, the GV wiring isn't like the early Vitara wiring or the Baleno wiring, or Jimny or anything really. Its totally unique! Also some GV's had immobilisers, some didn't. If your donor has a "chipped" key and hence a circular aerial around the key cylinder you have an immobilser, and will need to keep it in its entirety along with the key (and yours being an earlier GV may have a separate Immobiliser module to the aerial, so that too). and incorporate it into the conversion. |

I ran mine without a VSS or check engine light for a few months till I found a cluster with a VSS. Not ideal, but will run. The fact is supported when my speedo cable died about 12 months ago, I had that pesky check engine light come on... (came on pretty instantly when it broke on the highway). |

I messed around with my vitara cluster when I put it in Piggles and assumed the VSS trouble code Iw as getting was because I'd put a faulty VSS back into the cluster when I'd put it back together - so I went off to the wreckers and pulled a new cluster with a VSS. I hate having the CE light lit, even though I knew what it was. Got home, pulled my cluster to swap in the "new" VSS, and noticed I'd never put the two M3 screws in that connect the VSS to the PCB on the back of the cluster... Doh! Steve. |
