OK so as some of you know im building this. Pics below. I had planned to run sierra WT diffs, with 4.8 gears. j20a, aw4 gearbox. twin transfers. and 35s.
I have since become aware that vitara front diff gears, at least the 4.6 ones are fragile as hell. so im left with a quandry. I bought some of danks beedlock mags and having invested $1000s on them i would rather not move to toyota pcd diffs. the way i see it i have a few options.
1. Build a fullfloat rear diff using vitara centre similar to gwagons and do similar to that with a front diff, i have found a way to run 28 spline 30.5 mm shafts in the rear.
2. build up some toyota diffs put some 2 piece spacers on them to convert back to 5stud.
3. find/buy/build some dana 5 stud diffs.
4. sell off the mags and start from scratch.
5. other option i haven thought of....

If you're thinking about flicking the mags I may be able to be convinced it would be a good idea to buy them from you. Still un decided on which rims to use yet however if it helps others out at the time then that may factor in...

Also what about a joeblow kit dude?
Just use sierra centres and run 6.5's in the transfer, with the auto would it really be that bad with the 35's?

EDIT: Didn't see the bit about twin transfers, surely you could still throw 6.5's in the sierra transfer giving you correctish highway speed, then use the vit lowrange for standard lowrange and the sierra transfer lowrange for super lowrange, followed by both lowranges for stupidly lowrange?

Might be a bodgy solution but then I don't know how strong the sierra ring gears are either...

EDIT2: Another silly idea, kind of defeating the purpose but could you cut the pumkin out of the diffs and replace it with a hilux one, seems like a major job but you look to already have a fairly major job ahead anyway! Then you would only have to custom up the shafts to suit hilux centre and whatever full float you're going with.

How about getting Jowblow to make you a pair of diffs like his front and rear they are strong as hell and run bigger cvs. And as for the 4.6s I run them, occasionally with 35s and have had no problems. I don't know how much low range you want but I doubt you will need transfer gears with twins but you could always add them later.

Btw nice build, can't wait to see it finished. :)

Sierra centres, twin tranfer, power and 35's.. That would be very.borrowed time.

my oldmans sierra on 33s g13bb and jimny auto has so far destroyed 3x 4.6 diffs admittedly thats unlocked in comps but still dont trust them to be strong enough.
i already have the gears in the sierra case. engine , gearbox and transfers are finnished.

i will probably run with the WT diffs as they are until i destroy them but i'd like a fall back option for when they die.

I'd love to hear more details about what exactly is in JoeBlows diffs.

I'll keep you in mind once i decide in the next week or so what to do with the mags.

I already have a full floating kit built and finished for the WT axle but the sierra centre is not gonna be strong enough.

5 stud, don't know if 5x 139.7 though, front diff may be some extra work. but stronger and wider

Post subject:  Re: Axle decision time

5x120 PCD not 139.7

but an interesting thought. would be easier to get small spacers for

Post subject:  Re: Axle decision time

I would run Vit rear center with full floater 26spline HyTuff axles

Front I would run a Vit rear center, Sierra knuckles and DT CVs and axles.

That for the purest or 80series high pin center, lux diffs, chromo and some + offset rims.

Sell the bling to pay for the diffs

this is the way i was looking at going, but im not convinced that the 26 spine cvs and shafts will be strong enough.

As mentioned i can get 30.5 mm 28 spline shafts in the back. in Hytuff they would be hugely strong.

but 26 spline front end worrys me.

For 40mm extra offset just run some shmick lux housings and a tight scrub radius. DIRTY 30 :D

We are talking sierra chromo's in the front yes? Haven't they got an unlimited 1 year warranty? Just do your best to break a set in the first year and if they don't break well you're good to go!

i heard they have little floats on them so when submerged in oil they don't sink

They're in my shed if you want to make an offer they don't have centers in them but the axles and cvs are there.

I guess my problem with Hilux (if you're considering the whole housings) is the centred rear diff? What about 60 series? Still a few ratios available.

Is a bundera rear the same width?
They have a offset pumkin and 4.88 gears

Post subject:  Re: Axle decision time

What about just sticking some diff gears from lowrange in ya Sierra diffs? $400 for a pair of 4.56 R&P. Or even just see how ya go and worry about it later, the auto should cushion the driveline a little.

or 4.3, or 4.5, gotta look up the model they came out of.

My bundy diff WheelMountSurface is 30mm narrower than a lux front. Nothing uncommon for toyota. Look at a 75 cruiser. They look like they crabwalk, but from both sides..

Another option is lux housing, cruiser rear floaters hybrid.

The options are endless.

But people on here hate toyota parts :deadhorse:
