Hi people,

I'm considering putting a snorkel, not for wading, but to rise the air intake since i drive a lot in the dust. Good idea?

More important, should i pay the extra hundred for an ARB or TJM is fine?

It's a 2009 Jimny that stays 24/7 in the hot tropical sun and rain (parked in the street).

Thanks for the input. I do see many Australian people buying stuff from JimnyBits, even in the wonderland of OME and IronMan. Russ do sell top stuff. I got some parts off him as well. Good to hear about that cheap snorkel. Now it's an opition.

I got airtec. some of the other boys up here have that ebay one that has Jimny embossed on the side. they look alright. pretty much identical to airtek but with a different "head"

just FYI - i run my snorkel head backwards on my sierra... i had it facing forward for half of a summer (which is VERY dusty in WA) and my air filter took a thrashing, it was CAKED in dust unlike anything i've seen before, as the snorkel was just ramming it in there... Once i turned the snorkel head backwards i noticed a HUGE improvement in how much dust got in, but it was still about the same as factory, maybe a touch more.

I can't remember where the jimny air intake is, but on the sierra its right up the back of the engine bay near the battery, its a pretty dust free spot.

IMO if youre really worried about dust, put a pre-cleaner on the top of the snorkel:

I had one on my Moke for many moons. They work brilliantly.
My air cleaner lasted thru many dusty out back trips.
Vitara will get one when funds allow.

I'm considering buying one that is starting to be offered locally, from the 4Sport Model (see attachment). It will be even cheaper that the generic eBay ones from overseas.

No pre-cleaner head option, but the air intake is backwards default. Will think about cut a piece of foam to use as a pre-cleaner depending on the dust level.

what i use is one of these... when im not offroad, i stash it under the seat pre-oiled in a ziplock bag ready for use... Works a TREAT, my filter was still pretty much clean after cape york. highly recommended.
