Post subject:  Engine immobilisers

I don't have a problem myself but have had a couple of family members have problems with their non Suzukis Engine immobilisers.
The kind I mean is where there's a chip in the key so when you put it in the ignition switch it automatically de-immobilises the engine.

Anyone who has had this happen will know that taking it to a dealership to fix can be quite expensive. What I'd like to know is how, if possible, you can circumvent the immobiliser?

Reasons for wanting to do this;
A) In the middle of nowhere and it shits itself
B) Don't want to spend hundreds fixing a key

Cheers

I know you're a trustworthy bloke, as is the majority around here!

I just think that posting how to do this may be a little dangerous!

Like I said I know you're intentions are good, but what's to stop someone taking those instructions and then taking someone's car :(

I hadn't really thought about that angle :oops:

I guess I have just always seen them as an annoying gimmick that don't stop the crooks anyway. I'm heading to Cape York next year and would hate to have one fail in the middle of nowhere, causing total disablement for the sake of a security device that at best takes a pro thief an extra 10 secs to disable.

Thanks for your faith in my intentions Armsup

Maybe I should jump on the car thieves forum because they already know how to do it. :roll:

PM Stekky.

He may know about the proceedure. IIRC, there is a sequence of on and off engagements of the ignition switch, which will bypass the immobilizer. As for what that sequence is ???????
