Hey guys,

I have started removing the wiring from the Baleno and I need a little clarification.

The loom seems to be in 3 main sections. Engine. Fuse panel. Dash.

One thing I was curios about, do you have to modify the engine loom. Or is most of the modifications in the dash/fuse wiring.

There's very little work to do on the engine loom unless you want to shorten it down so it's neater.

Almost none of the dash/fuse wiring needs to be used. Power/earths, VSS, Check engine light is about it. You can fit the baleno tach into the sierra cluster. It's fiddly but doable.

Okay that make sense.

I have a copy of PJ zooks wiring diagram. I have been staring at it for ages hoping it will get easier to understand. No such luck.

Will keep trying. I know it can't be that difficult. Just got to get my head round it.

I stripped the baleno loom and wired the trolley tug without using a diagram, I only used the diagram for troubleshooting at the end of the process. This isn't meant to sound like a boast at all - I find wiring as much of a pain as anyone and have no special skills at all, it's just that I think using a diagram is fine if the wiring is in the car and you're trying to find out why something doesn't work, but when the whole baleno loom is laid out on the floor of the garage/lounge room/driveway, it's pretty clear what you need and what you don't.

My method if you have the whole car is to take the whole loom out labelling all the connectors/plugs, then strip away what you don't need, like (I assume) power windows, rear demister, lights, A/C, etcetc, until you are left with the engine loom and the power feeds to it. You won't be left with much.

Much of the wiring you can see here is for the two relays required, one is the main power relay that fires up everything, the other is the fuel pump relay. OTher than ign+ve, -ve, VSS and check engine, there's stuff all else.

In this photo, you can see the engine loom hasn't been disturbed at all. I did end up shortening it, but it wasn't required, I just did it to tidy things up.

You may want to keep the wiring for the thermo fan control, even if you just leave it labelled and coiled up. We didn't however.

Thanks Steve that's an excellent post. I really want to understand what I'm doing so I can help other people too

I did have a couple of cables removed from a fusible link in the fuse box. I'm assuming that will have to stay.

Steve did you have a pin out diagram when doing this??

Surely it would of been almost impossible without knowing what was going to where.

It's all on here dude. Just search.

Hey thanks for that, pretty much what i got at the moment. Its translating that information into the loom.

I have worked out the middle and right plug on that diagram go directly to the engine, and the right is one that will have to get split up.. And that blue connector too.. Gonna put some work into it tonight.

The wiring diagram is on here too. :)

I have the one that PJ zook did, that seems to be the one that will help me the most. But im going to do what Steve did and lay it all out and start stripping back. I do have it all.

Yeah that's all you need.

Post subject:  Re: Baleno into Sierra wiring questions

Okay so tonight i thought i would have a go at trimming the loom down.

I removed pretty much the dash cluster wiring, all the air con/blower fan wiring and all the wiring going to the rear of the car. I figured i wouldn't be needing rear tail lights etc.

Im trying to look at it from a logical point of view. The engine cluster is untouched. would that mean i would have to supply power and earth to the ecu somehow and we would be in action.. Then work out fuel etc..

In PJ zooks diagram, his engine loom seems to be modified where as mine isnt. Will that cause dramas down the track??

I hope you didnt cut the rear harness, you will need the wires to the pump, but you can always rejoin.

Pink from 'square' fuse/relaybox

Just do what i said in my email. plug them all to motor, those that dont plug in, work out what they are for through the pinout guide, Tag them, follow them then cut at the next plug, longer the wires the better, you can always shorten, But to rejoin will take abit longer

I did cut the rear loom off. Dammit

Progress so far

Post subject:  Re: Baleno into Sierra wiring questions

Plug the ones to the engine loom, because that grey one goes into the ecu. 3 plugs in the ecu.

its ok, you can always resolder wires as long as you know what you did and what they are for

Post subject:  Re: Baleno into Sierra wiring questions

Yeah the ecu takes 3 grey plugs. 2 of those plugs are attached to the engine loom.
The other one you can see in the pic. There is also that blue plug.

It's a while now since I did mine, but I'm pretty sure it went like this:

I started with PJZook's diagram, and the one Stockman posted.
I worked out which wires were actually needed and highlighted them on the ECM end of the diagram.
Then I actually removed the un-needed wires from the plug. Then from the rest of the harness.

You can then lay out what you have around the engine etc.. and tape it up accordingly.

Post subject:  Re: Baleno into Sierra wiring questions

So some progress has been made.

Pretty much most of the dash wiring has been turfed. Im pretty sure these are the only wiring that is required.

Tonight i will match all the ECM codes with the colours of the wires and then maybe do a bit more trimming.

Nice, Looks like your getting somewhere!

Post subject:  Re: Baleno into Sierra wiring questions

More progress, sat down with a mate that has done a VIT conversion before and lightened the loom a bit more and did some identifying..

Still got a bit to go but it was good progress

I'm not sure if keeping the factory fuse box is a good thing or a bad thing.

Plus this last one, looking back that picture of the blue plug by itself was kind of pointless

Post subject:  Re: Baleno into Sierra wiring questions

Has anyone in Perth actually completed the wiring for a Baleno conversion themselves and not had it done by a sparky or Kustom kables??

We have wired one up but apparently the Injectors are staying open but everything else seems to be fine. We followed PJ'S diagram.

I've done two, but not for road going vehicles, can't recall the diagram used but am 90% certain it was just the factory pin diagram, possibly a dodge cable or relay?

The ecu isn't throwing out any error codes.
When we unplug a sensor it throws the right code

All sorted guys. The car runs.
Turned out the CAS needed a little trimming:)

Wasn't it running close enough to the teeth to pickup properly?

Apparently it was on a lean and 2mm had to be shaved off one side

Good you worked it out !

Post subject:  Re: Baleno into Sierra wiring questions

That's the same problem I had.
The piece that was welded into the front of the sump wasn't flush. It caused the CAS to sit on a bit of an angle.
I had to shave a fair bit more of mine though :D
