Post subject:  Swapping water pump from 96 coily engine - 90 Sierra engine

I've just brought a second hand 1990 Sierra engine to swap into my 96 coily Sierra that has a hole in it.
The fan on the 96 engine is mounted differently and was wondering if there is an easy option to swap them around without removing the timing cover which as far as I'm aware meant removing theharmonic balancer?
Any help is gladly appreciated :)
Thanks, Jake.

I don't think the 1.3 has a harmonic balancer - as far as I know it's a one piece pulley - and it's held in place by four or five small bolts (different years), removing it is a snap.

The water pump is not interchangeable between the leaf and coil Sierra. A mate found this out the hard way some years ago

Hey guys thanks for the reply, i managed to get the fan mount shroud thing off the replacement engine so hopefully the fan pully will bolt straight on didnt have any time to have a look as its at my mates house and zoomed down there during lunch break.
Yep gottta replacde the harmonic balancer from the coily to the replacement just a simple case of unbolting the balancer bolt and th small bolts around it (hopefully) or else its back to sqaure one to replace all pullys with older pullys and get a fan and alternator from a non coil sprung motor :/

To remove the crank pulley (not a harmonic balancer) you only undo the 8mm head bolts. No need to undo the centre big bolt as it only holds the lower timing belt sprocket on.

Yeah i found this out the hard way too, if you contact Suziworld they know exactly what you need, and by the way they use the same waterpump gasket if that is any help.

thanks W33's
so that means i can just use the crank pulley on the replacxennt engine then? just got to remove the crank pulley it uses.

Hey DEC what is required then? I noticed the pumps ae the same face but just diferent fan conections which is plain and simply shit, i though i could just take the fan off and maybe use some custom bolts to bolt the fan to the replacement water pump?
Im really confused will have a closer look tomoz and possibly chuck some pics up.

I used a Swift/Barina waterpump on my Sierra, it had the wrong stud pattern for my fan.
I had a good mate make up an adaptor to solve that issue.

Hi mate, that is correct, however just give Suziworld a quick call and say that you have a 1996 coily sierra which has a different water pump to the other and they'll know exactly what you need, unfortunately it doesn't have a part number as it's there own waterpump it's roughly $90.
There number is +61 3 9459 8988

hope that helps

Shane95 Got the engine from a guy called shane in perth, do you know him??? haha yer nar i brought it off you as im aware now.

Had a bit of a blonde moment today, went to lift the old engine off with 2 ropes on the engine mounts and on a big ally pipe and the motor did a flip haha ofcourse its top heavey.
Wanted to get the bastard out that much overlooked the rules of gravity haha.

Thanks for the tip Chris, im currently working next door to a wreckers, may be an option.

Ill post some pics up of how i fixed the waterpump problem. only thing to do now is find a single pulley for the alternator.
Cheers for the help DEC hopefully after seeing the photos i might get a thumbs up to say itll do the job haha. The pulley is a bit wonkey but shouldnt matter might just give it a bang back into allignment.

So this is how it was on the replacement engine

Then i removed the pulley attachment thing

Cheers, Jake

And then added the studs from the coily engine pump

And then walla

So ive just got to find a single belt that will fit if anyone has a part nubber handy?
andive got to change the pulley on the alternator as it is to wide
