hey guys, just curious as is there a way i can run a standard 1.6 efi computer to run a turbo setup? or would i have to buy a aftermarket? If i could set the original computer up i would rather do that so i can get it running and get an aftermarket later down the track, but i have been told they wont work with boost, well could i hook up a map sensor or do they have a map sensor?? ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED |

If you do go that way I'd get a wide band O2 sensor so you can keep an eye on your air/fuel ratio. All the 16 valve G16 I have seen have an air flow meter. All the throttle body injected G16 I have seen have had a MAP sensor. |

You could probably get away with low boost by 'tricking' the ecu through the sensors such as the air and water temps to run slightly richer, and if your have a dissy you could manually retard the timing (assuming the computer pick up is inside it). Apart from that there is not alot you can really do with a stock ecu and the fuel maps are set internally. Using a boost referenced MAP sensor ie 2 bar will not work with the ecu as it will give its maximum output under boost compared to the std sensor where its maximum output would at WOT no boost (and max fuel according to the internal maps). Best bet would be to use a rising rate fuel regulator as well as retarding your timing. Dan |

i have a vl fuel pump which pushes at 145psi i think and a fuel regulator and boost controller etc. i only want to run low bost i have been told they can handle about 8psi standard, i wanna run maybe 4-5. but i wanna dont want to spend millions on a computer |

i'm drinking again lol, jsut tune it by ear, don't woory bout retading timing just stick to 5 degs, if you have a boost controller set it to 3psi, take it for a drive at WOT, if it don't ping up the boost to 4 psi and keep going till u heard it pinging, same as rattling a tin of marbles lol. i tuend my old VL turbo this way, 18psi worked great on stock motor and huge front mount, i used to drop a huge dose and fry tyres through 3rd at 100. then motor didn't work ne more hehehe!!! |
