hi all, i was just given a set of rancho shocks that are pretty much farked...

the guy who gave them to me tells me they can be rebuilt/serviced.

is this true?

has anyone had theirs done and how much does it cost per unit.

is it worth doing or do they not end up being at the same quality?

konis can be rebuilt, ranchos you chuck out they arent really a dear shock, just the aust importes like to gouge the customers cause they know they wont come back anyway

nah even konis arent really worth repairing, only works out a few dollars elss than new ones, main advantage is altering the valving to suit your needs

the ones i was given are all adjustable ones, with the dials on them.

they are all pretty ordinary, the exposed shaft seems fine without any pits or anything, but none of them will push back out when compressed.

only a very new shock will do that, its not a design feature just what happens from the gas

as long as they feel even pushing them in and pulling them out and arent real soft or heavy they are probably OK

well then, i guess i can just use them as a mock up atelast and if they still work i will be laughing......

what issues do you have with the rancho's?

i havent had much/any experience with different shock's yet, i just thought the rancho's were a pretty good shock, and i liked the fact tha tthey were adjustable... and more so the fact that they were free

I have a set of them. work well for me. Love the adjust ability. People do tend to rubbish them. I do believe that they may not be the best on coil sprung vehicles, but I love them. Each to there own

Unless they are on their softest setting, it rides like a go kart. Maybe it has to do with springs too, but my suspension is pretty stiff with any setting other than soft.

im having the same dramas as you lumpy charcoal.. i've got 9000's all round, with the 9000X in the front (newest model).. my springs arent the softest thats out there, but they arent that bad.. and i constantly have mine set on the softest setting, and its still fairly harsh. Also heard heaps of times that the weld around the eyes of them break off!!

do OME and KYB make adjustable shocks.

do adjustable shocks actually have enough adjustment to make a difference from a super flexy off road ability to a nice firmer ride for the tarmac???

not saying that mine will be super flexy or a perfect road mobile... jus twanna know if they have a big enough firmness range

You have riddin in my car, do you think mine is as harsh in the front. remember i have more camber than you on the front springs so in theory mine should be harsher/stiffer. I do run mine on the softer settings not sure what number but will check later.

Springs make your ride firm or soft .Shocks stop your car bouncing up and down. Flex is about the length of the shocks along with a bunch of other contributing factors. If you get the wright shocks you will still have good slow speed flex and optimum on road performance for the car it is..

Removing a leaf or two may well negate the need for a kidney belt in my car... I should do it one day...
