I cant remember the specifics on years but there are 2 different types of spline on the output of the box and different tailshafts on the different years transfers

There is also differences in the wiring, so while it will bolt in, you might need to swap transfers and tailshafts as well, plus make the wiring fit

When did the gearbox output change? From original carb to EFI?

Early LWB EFI transfer (93) will bolt up to later LWB EFI gearbox (97) it's the bellhousing end that I think might be an issue.

Later transfer only has one switch for 4WD, none for 'Lo', and as above you'll need the tailshafts to match whatever transfer you use.
