So I've got a g16b in my Sierra. (recently payed $1500 for low km jap import) I have a new alloy Sierra radiator with shroud and vitara hub/fan. Driving around town temps are fine nothing to worry about. At the moment I'm at nth straddy and I'm finding it gets a bit warm for my liking through soft sand. My tyre pressures are fine. I'm thinking of running an additional thermo fan in front as a push through setup. Like a good quality spal. Controlled by a switch to help when I'm doing low speed/lowrange work. For the $250 spent its nothing on a $1500 engine. I purely want to do it as a safe guard.

Or would I be better off replacing the clutch fan with just a high flow spal?

Is the clutch fan still engaging properly?
It may need new fluid in it.
Christover did a write up on replacing the silicon oil.

All that will do is create less airflow for the main fan.

Is the rad new or a wrecker special?

New. It's only getting to 110 maximum. But I just want to add it as a safeguard!

I put a swb vitara radiator in my Sierra and it's never over heated
Still got the clutch fan and I don't have a thermo fan

Apparently the stock clutch fans shit all over a thermo fan. I was looking to do the same as you... But got talked out of it because of the airflow reasons.

Does anyone have a actual cfm of the stock clutch fan?

Generally speaking clutch fans are alot better than thermo fans. Dont have any CFM figures to back this up, but the stocko fan does move alot of air! How is the viscous coupling on the stocko fan? Has it worn out?

No kinks in the radiator hoses? do you get good airflow through the front?

When was the last time the thermostat was looked at? it might not be opening all the way?

Haven't looked at the coupling yet. As I'd assume it's in ok condition cause I was told its low km. spal thermo fans pump out a crapload cfm. It's only driving through the sand that raises the temp. Under everyday driving conditions it's fine.

Ill pull the hub out and get some oil from Toyota or repco.
