I doubt a 1L starter will fit a 1.3 block. But a mitsubishi lancer starter is the same as a 1.3 sierra one..

So i can be wrong :P

no they are different, i needed a new starter for my 1.3L when i still had my 1L and tryed it and no go, if i remember i think the end that goes in to the fly wheel is longer on the 1L

Hi Guys, Im looking for a replacement starter motor for a SJ80/G13BA. Can you give us a quick run down on the interchangeable starters I can use/look for and whether or not its something you can do yourself. Also, if I bang on it a bit :wink: , with that temporarily alleviate my problem? I need to get it rego'd by the end of Jan. Im in Sydney. Thanks

aaaand - would an bigger than average battery have caused the starter motor any damage?, Im usually a 3-5 sec ignition turner if that factors in at all.

Shouldent matter, I think we all have a bigger battery then the pissy stock one. :P

My starter was not extending out to start..

I pulled it apart, regreased the little swing arm, And gave it all a clean. Works like a treat.

Then after one start it wouldnt work again! Pulled it out... Checked it and the gear that swings out works like a ratchet action. It snapped!, So i got another from a mitsubishi lancer (thats how i know they will fit)

Picknpay is where i shop. :D
Take your starter there and match a new one. The swifts dont fit :wink:

pull yours apart, clean it up. get any worn out/broken bits replaced from an auto leckie. = cheap as. be less then $50

or if theres nothing broken and its just caked up with mud it'll cost nothing.


I have a good one to suit a 1 litre if anyone needs one.

well I decided to have a look at taking the starter out then changed my mind and decided to clean the connections first to see if that helped at all.

Well, the socket wrench extension bridged the gaps between the two bolts off the soloniod part(?) and the housing shell of the starter motor and it whizzed to life :twisted: . And I can repeat it. So to me, its really a job for an auto electrician to look at. Would you agree?

There is an immobiliser installed but it activates/deactivates with no quams but still nothing (except the 'reds') happens when I turn the key. Im really scratching my head as to what to do as the dollars are really scarce these days and every decision has to be bare bones and correct :( my current logical vote is for a mobile auto electrician to come out and look at it...

My Sierra had a 1L starter motor in it takes a spacer bracket to be made and the butchering of the starter motor def not worth the trouble. When it came time to replace I went and got a 1.3 Starter.

if bridging the terminals made the starter work then your solenoid is the problem , check that you have power to your start wire(the small wire conected to the spade terminal )when you tern the key to start,if so then it's your solenoid.good luck.
