| Post subject: | Calmini strut shocker |
G'day everyone, One of my new Calmini struts has given up. What a shocker, I reckon the car only has about 20 hours on the new suspension. I don't think calmini are going to give me a warranty claim either (well within a year) because I did not buy them direct, I went through www.4wd.com. A real pain!!! Not too sure if I'd want to put their struts back in to be honest. Anyway, I'm going to go OME. Does anyone know the part numbers that I need? I've got a 3" body lift and 3" suspension lift, will I need any of the strut extenders if I buy the right struts? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, I've got a 90 vitara SWB. Kind Regards |

OME are longer than calmini, did you blow the top seal in the calmini? they do that cause they are too short |

I'm not too sure what's busted, I notice a lot of strut movement the other day - I've not had time to get in there for a proper look. I'll order the OMEs. Due to the amount of movement, I'd think that the guts of the thing are ripped apart. I'll take some pics and post when I rip it apart. And yes, they should honour the warranty, it's a joke! |

Bugger! I have the same setup in my vitara... and I drive it every day. Will see how it goes!! The front droop is pretty huge with the standard length calmini struts in, do you think that you may incur problems with the CVs with the longer OME strut? |

OMG, you drive it everyday... Mine is a pig - although the centipedes don't help me at all in the daily driver stakes. I lost 3 fillings the other day, and I only got to 85km/h... I'm getting a price on the OMEs now |

I paid $200 ea cash in september, they should do a club discount or something for you. I daily drive mine on MT/R 31's it's not too bad with a bit of weight in the back & with the j20a & 5.12's it goes hard. |

Mine has the 3 inch calmini lift and a 2" body lift on 31s (bfg muddies) and i get to 110 pretty easily. It does wander a bit but i don't have a steering dampener. I can get to 140 going down hill... hah! Brakes good too thanks to the LWB brakes hehe. What pressures are you running in the 'pedes? |

Extreme struts for vitara or GV $400 a pair and are 70mm longer than stock and slotted so you should not need camber bolts for a wheel alignment, calmini struts are the same length as the factory ones |

All good info, thanks guys. I was telling porkies, my vit can travel at 100+, but it's not that nice... Good to hear about the other vits about, I was beginning to think I was the only crazy one out there. OME are 40mm longer than standard - so extreme sound good. I may look for them. I don't want em to fall apart though... OME sound like the goods. Club discount gives me 161 each. |

Have you considered Dobinsons..? I think their Struts are a little more than the OME, either 40mm or 50mm over standard gear. When we fitted a Calmini Kit to a mates Vitara 91 model we saw the struts from Calmini and compared the standard ones out of the car both the same length as the Calmini ones we figured they weren't going to be to good being made in Egypt or India where ever it was so we left them out. |

As you can see the struts are longer and the shocks are long too ( factory, ome, extreme ) struts are made in spain by extreme ( stamped into struts, not just stickers ) and imported to china and i have got them from my supplier |

These fit early vits too right? What is the compressed length compared to stock? |

i think you are talking the shocks, i have not measured the compresed length but they are 15cm longer than factory ones. |
