Post subject:  River crossing at Pebbly beach in a standard Jimny
Hello all

Let me 1st say hi, my name is Joost I am new with both 4x4 and Suzuki's so please be a bit gentle, but i got out 2 weeks ago and got myself a new 2012 Jimny and are now looking to use it :D already did a 8 hour drive thru the Yengo NP and this 4x4 stuff??? AWESOME! somebody should have warned me how addictive this is..

I hope this is the right place to ask this question, but next weekend me and the GF are looking to go to Pebbly beach. My understanding is that we have to cross a river to get there. Is that crossing doable in a standard Jimny?

Yes the crossing is do able in a stock jimny anout 2 hrs either side of low tide, I was up there a few weeks ago and even saw a rav4 over the other side! Just check the tide times before you go

Thanks for the replies,

A snorkel and diff breathers are on the to-do list but i wont have that done before next weekend.

The plan is to cross at low tide, walk it 1st and if the water is above the wheels, go to another camping ;-)

Station creek campsite is nearby, I found the water deepest going straight across, if you walk downstream a little and find the shallower bank you will be right.

Getting leads that fit nice, and some good grease on the boots, plus seal the dizzy properly and your car will run underwater. Unplug the sensors and run electrical grease and they shouldn't give you drama's either.

Run a blind on the front of the car and as long as you don't stop you wont need a snorkel.

IMO diff/gearbox breathers are FAR more important. If the water is above the bottom of your axle tubes... find another spot ;)

This works... Ive run my sierra with water half way up the windscreen..on both sides as cab was full too :shocked: .... and the motor still ran/drove/floated/sunk.

I tried to drive under the old bridge at hawthorn creek, Neerim south.....Was glad i was going down stream..... :rofl:

So what do you do about the breather moulded into the distributor cap? Block it up or extend it above the windscreen?

^^^ Nice, did you walk across first. If you didn't have diff breathers fitted you'll probably have water in them if the water was more than 400mm deep.

I was thinkin the same thing nutter... but left it right alone.... whole point of HAVING a snorkel is to do shit like that.... why bother buying one otherwise?

Speaking of that crossing dude, saw a vid the other day of some pansies pussing out of that eli crossing under the same conditions we did it in and instead crossed over further up where there was kids swimming... friggen toyotas... lol
