I have read here and there that vit or baleno steering wheels share the same spline as a sierra wheel
Just after some clarifacation on this..

Also if they do fit are they the correct offset, i.e does it alter the spacing of the wheel from the indicator stalk

I hate my stock wheel but dont want a "sports" wheel

Cheers

They typically have more offset- i.e the wheel sits closer to the driver. I have had swift, baleno and vitara wheels in my car and this has been the case with all of them.

What out of?

Any G or F engined swift, any non-airbag vitara, any non-airbag baleno. Cappuccino wheels are awesome, and are basically a "sports" wheel with a separate boss you could bolt a MoMo wheel to. There's probably other stuff too.

There is a small proviso - depending on what you use, the pins that cancel the indicators may need to be moved.

Swift wheel in in a WT I also had this wheel in a NT for a while back in the late 90's.

Baleno wheel, which is the same as late non-airbag vitara in a 1.0. (Sorry it is out of focus

Cappuccino wheel in a NT. This wheel is now in Gregc's WT.

I have just been through this on my Sierra. I found a swift gti steering wheel at the wreckers for $30. From what I found at the wreckers a normal swift one has the holes for the indicator return the same spacing as a Sierra so all have have to do is put in some roll pins an your done

The gti steering wheel was a nicer design and a good size. It's about 40mm smaller than a standard Sierra one. I have power steer so smaller size is fine.

Below is a pic of the wheel I have found on google.

You can see the holes for the indicator return. This spacing is slightly wider than a Sierra and didn't work. There is enough meat in the mounting part of the wheel to drill 2 new holes to insert rolls pins in for the indicators to self cancel. The Sierra roll pins are a smaller diameter than the holes already there. It also sits about 1" closer which is nice. I had to trim down the plastic 'shroud' on the back so it wouldn't foul on the steering column surround.
