Got me a dual case set up for the vit
After desroying my motor ive decided to rebuild the vit
Should i go Another 1.6 but with a auto or should i step up to a j20 auto
Going to try and get a sas passed and will probly run 33

SAS a GV & slot that behind it so you get a decent towing capacity & decent reduction |

Been playing round with gearing calculator and im not sure that the vit and sierra tc is going to be low enough Wat do people think Would gears in the vit case tear the sierra case apart |

1.0L or 4.16 is probably the max you could run in compound like that (in the sierra xfer gearing). A stock 1.3L case can handle a bit more load, but still not 4.3 (instead of 1.9) (the vit xfer gearing done) Doing 4.3 in the vit xfer, will most likely pop the sierra case wise open. You could consider ditching the dual setup and run a standalone sierra case with gears, providing tyre size is right. Sierra xfer can mostly handle this type of load, but the 1.9 or 4.3 x input torque is too much for most of the gear sets. Using the adapter on LROR etc to suit sierra jackshaft. The sierra case would still be in the same location as running duals, unless you shorten the shaft (sierra jackshaft is the length of the vit case), EDIT: bit more explainy |

A stock sierra can't see more than 365Nm of torque on the input shaft. That setup could see something like 2000Nm if you have a G16B. That's a little outside of the design parameters of the sierra case, methinks. For context, many years ago I was talking to Bill Larman (Agrover on Pirate 4X4.) He made his own portal boxes for his series 2 landrover. With his gearing setup, he could run 220:1 of gearing reduction into his portal boxes, and knew for certain that that was too much torque for them to survive under full torque, so he only ever used 220:1 reduction at idle and when he wasn't bound up. I think that Bill is the most talented/inspired/capable 4X4 builder that has ever lived, but I think this is a fail. Knowing that there's a part on your car that could easily fail if you give it too much throttle/get bound up is dumb in my opinion. It's a very nice feeling knowing that the weak link in a car is the motor or the nut behind the wheel. Steve. |

In IFS land we call them CVs, we've been living with the knowledge for years.   Luke what diffs are you thinking of running if you go SAS? Staying Zook or upsizing? If you're not precious about brand loyalty why not look at Hilux cases, one with 4.7s if you want crazy low. Or is it just that you got hold of that dual setup? |

Hilux case has no benifit at all It hi range gearing i need The 4.2 vit was enough in low but 1.1 high sucks I got the dual cases cheap As for front diff no idea yet A custom sierra front diff like joe was going to make would fit nice but ot depends on wat the engenieer wants If he will let me sas at all that is |

Joe's been running that set up ( 1.3 transfer and 5.1 diffs) for years with no problems at all and so have a lot of his customers some of which ditched the Seirra transfer gears due to unreliableity and no warranty backup, things may have changed of course I'm sure but I still wouldn't use them if they were free. |
