Post subject:  Spartan locker wont unlock... or is it just me

Hey guys, so Ive just installed a Spartan locker into the rear diff of my Suzuki Sierra, and had the backlash and pinion depth set by a diff expert.

I installed the diff, filled it with oil, put the axles and wheels back on, and spun a wheel a few 100 revolutions (well... enough) to get the oil flowing, put the passengers side wheel on the deck, and when I tried to spin the opposite wheel it wouldn't unlock.

Now before I tear it down, the driveshaft isn't connected to the diff as the tf case is out currenty. Now I'm still learning here, but does the pinion need to have torque applied to it for the locker to unlock or have I done something wrong completely.

Hoping someone can help me out, with that question first... and if that doesnt solve it were going back to the drawing board :rambo:

Thanks in advance from one frustrated Zooker :x

Cheers
Ev

The spartans are tight from the start. Mine and Nato were. 1500kms or so and it freed up.

Torque locks it. Different wheel speed off the go pedal unlocks it.

I'm not even close to being at the driving stage haha, she's still on stands. I was just wondering If the driveshaft needed to be connected for the locker to unlock during testing. Ive tried spinning a wheel with the other on the ground, and it's locked solid. The transfer is out as mentioned, so if thats the reason it's not unlocking then happy days. Just thought I'd ask before tearing it all down.

Its tight thats all.

If you put drive to it, it wants to lock.

I fitted a spartan in mine two days ago.
Couldnt gear it to unlock by turning the wheels by hand.
Took it for a drive and it worked as it should

Dont stress on it

Cool, good to know. It will be awhile before it gets driven on so I just wanted to make sure.

Thanks for the replys.
