Hey guys im in a bit of a furious state after my carby? has been playing up and giving me the shits.
Basically i can get the engine running when i set the accelerator cable so it constantly is reving the engine but its running very rough and when im engaging gears i have to rev it very high to get any movement and most of the time it wil just die after putting it in reverse or 1st.
I Have checked all the timing with a timing light and it has got new ignition leadsand spark plugs.
I recently put a hevier clutch from the original engine that was in it when i brought it that blew out a piston.
It was a 1996 clutch kit and i put i onto a 1990 1.3 engine so that shouldnt matter it all looked he same.
The carby has its butterfly thing that just swings there and isnt attached to anything.

Im thinking i need a new carby or could it be a fuel problem? and if so where do i start?

when it hant been run for half a da its very hard to get idling i can crank it over and keep it going by reving the crap out of it but it dies as soon as i stop unless its at operating temperature.
Thats why i manuallly set the accelerator cable so its reving it at around 2k constantly.

Theres a good chance the idle jet is blocked

I agree.

Make sure fuel system is clean, from tank to carb.
New filter, add a filter between fuel pump and carb (old fuel pumps can shed bits of diaphragm)
New fuel pump is wise, then fix carby issues if needed.
A bottle of fuel system cleaner may be enough to fix carby, but dirty fuel may just gum it up again

X 2 with Christover1 Sounds like you had the same problems as mine, Erratic idling Everytime you slow Down Its stalls Drove Nuts!!
I had a blocked Jet Pulled the carby off cleaned the jets Put new Filters and put a small one from Fuel Pump to Carby Being Running Sweet eversince.

I found about 40mm deep of mud and rust in bottom of my tank.
Had a pin hole that must have scooped mud from track.
Never noticed any petrol leaking out.
Early tanks sometimes have a drain plug,
no idea why they don't all have them.

hey theres an issue for sure. fix that n go form there? ive ben having the same issue over last coupe weeks and this arvo my coil died.

Where the 2 intake ports are on top of the carby and the choke flap yer is not conected to anythin g and just flaps there.

Thanks heaps for all the replies guys next thing im gonna do is new filters.
I did run the fuel down very low so it mustof picked up some crap.
Ill clean he lines and like mentioned i will put a filter between carby and pump.
Ill post up how it goes.

If its just flapping around tie it up so it stays open. Otherwise you will have all sorts of issues from it.

The tank picks up it's fuel from the bottom regardless of fuel level....

Hey jake to make sure the flap is working correctly start the car when it's dead cold with the ducting off. The flap should gradually open they do look like there not connected there weird setup!

Yet I will tie it open so it stays that way.
But yer I definatly know it not connected to anything as where it should be conected it isn't.
