Post subject:  How hard is it to change the Water Pump on a 96 Sierra?
Washed my car today took for a spin and then when I pulled up it dumped all the coolant onto the road. Poured some water through the radiator and found it leaking from what I think is the water pump. Can anyone tell me the steps to replace please & if I get a mechanic to do it how much should I pay? Thanks

this is one for the G16a, the sierra will be pretty much the same. might as well do the timing belt when you're in there.

front main, and cam seal is worth considering whilst its pretty much all apart too

1, Drain radiator from little tap in bottom tank.
2, Undo top & bottom rad hoses.
3, Remove rad & shroud.
4, Loosen alternator.
5, Remove fan and spacer.
6, Remove bottom pulley.
7, Remove timing cover.
8, Loosen timing belt tensioner.
9, Remove belt.
10, Remove cam and crank pulleys.
11, Remove and replace cam and crank seals.
12, Remove belt tensioner and water pump.
13, Replace water pump with new gasket and some goo.
14, Reassemble everything else.
15, Fill with plain water, check for leaks, if none, drain half a litre from rad and add inhibitor then run engine and top up.

I've prob missed something but that is the basic process.

It's not hard just take your time, be sure to purchase the correct water-pump though. The coily g13ba has a different bolt pattern for the fan clutch, Suziworld carry the correct one.
And second that Atari, whilst your there do your timing belt kit.

compared to what? Leaf G13A and G13ba are the same, along with G16 in Vitara, Swift is different though

Also, if you plan to do this yourself, be familiar with replacing the timing belt, mess this up youll spend forever trying to work out why it doesnt run anymore

I had dramas finding the correct one, as the listings for mine have a larger mounting to the fan clutch.
I purchased the equivalent to this cheap ebay one.

I bought that exact "cheap" one off ebay and installed it last week. (id say 45mins to remove, an 1.5hrs or so to put back together (bit of mucking around with gasket goo and bleeding cooling system))

Seemed like decent quality to me. It's the same aftermarket brand that supercheap and repco sells.
