Q> Will a "immobilised" ECU (2002) swap out with a "non immobilised ECU" (1998) in J20 GV's ? i.e. is it Plug ang Play from 2002 to 1998 model, or does the entire harness need swapping over, incluiding the immobiliser bits, antenna, transponder key, BCM,etc..... |

I would assume that they are NOT interchangable. Perhaps losfer or fordem will know for sure. |

Thought so. Even if the immobiliser crypto is in the bcm it still needs to send the signal to the ecu to allow it to start the car. |

Yep. Same with the current M series swift stuff. Everything is integrated into BCM and ECU looms. |

As far as I know you only have to swap over a couple of wires in the ECU plug but you will need to source an ECU with, matching immo and key. I would imagine the looms have provision for the immo but maybe not for the transponder. Is the BCM matched to the immo? I wouldn't have thought so. |

Makes sense.....I have a LWB J20 as well, so might keep the motor as a spare, and sell the ecu/key/bcm/antenna/harness complete, which will get the J20 running if someone is doing the conversion........ |

Good to see Rhinoman monitoring these forums  Mention ECU and hes right on it  I tried reading a 1998 model ECU and i came to the conclusion they are different languages, as the Suzuki Scan tool would not connect, but a 2002 model it will. A Transponder Key Id usually has to be programed into both the Imob and ECU where both accept the code before starting the car.. |

1998 uses the early SDL protocol supported by the Tech2, 2002 Aus model uses SDLKWP as determined by GeckoXL7. The immo has to be matched to the ECU and the key to the immo. Suzuki swap a couple of wires over so if you plug a non-immo ECU into an immo vehicle it won't start. If you were desperate to get the 2002 into the 1998 then it could be done but you couldn't sell it as a straight replacement. |
