Post subject:  Reverse light switch issue...

i just bought a new reverse light switch, the thing that plugs into the gearbox... and now when i put the car in reverse, the fuse blows. i can bridge the 2 terminals where it plugs into the loom, and the reverse lights come on and fuse remains intact, same thing if i plug the reverse switch in but dont screw it into the gearbox and push the little button on the end... but once its screwed in, it just blows the fuse.

anyone else ever had this issue? sounds most likely to be the reverse switch is faulty, not a wiring issue. any thoughts?

Remove the switch and check for continuity from either of the terminals to the switch body.

There have been switches that earth out when fully depressed - if you have one of those - stick a washer under the switch

What lights are you trying to run for reverse?

2 tiny LED lights that draw about half what the original reverse lights do... worked fine with the old switch, only replaced because one of the wires broke off the switch itself
