Well I got the GV with cruise control thinking this would be great, but have since found that it can be tempermental. There is no rhyme or reason as to when it will choose to work, it just decides itself. I can activate the cruise control (the 'cruise' light illuminates on the dash), but it will only 'set' a cruise speed sometimes. I have tried to determine if it is temperature related, or moisture related as I know it can get very warm under the hood andalso it has been raining here since I have had it, but I cannot see any pattern.

Has anyone else had a similar issue or heard of it? And, if not, does anyone have an idea of where to look first before I take it to an auto eleccy?? Once again, any help and advice is more than welcome.

Manual

No personal experience, but from what I'm told - on a manual, it won't set below some "magic" speed (fairly low), so that's one thing to be aware of, there's also I think a switch on the clutch that disengages it.

Yeah true....I was aware of the minimum speed thingy, but sometimes I try to engage it at 60 (which is not really that low for any cruise control car) and sometimes it will engage and sometimes it won't.
I hadn't thought of the clutch/brake de-activation switches. Maybe they are sticking....that could be a quick and easy (read - CHEAP) fix if that's all it is... I might start there.

60km/h is a very low speed to be setting cruise control. Cruise is intended for use on open roads.

Check the brake and clutch switches, Look for bad connections under the bonet, Is it getting enough Vacumn pressure?

Speed sensor i believe uses the same digital signal as the speedo.
