It seems my offroad adventure has taken its toll on the XL-7. it developed a rather bad rattle from the back door... I came home pulled the rear surround off and it has cracked the rear door.. So my question is where the heck do I find a New barn door ? Will the door from a Normal Grand Vitara fit ?? |

pics, where has it cracked, the outer skin or some of the bracing on the inside or the inner skin? cracks can be easily dealt with by a decent panel shop, drill a small hole at each end of the crack to stop it spreading & weld it all up. the holes stop the crack spreading as it reduces the stress risers caused by the crack. do the GV's/XL-7's run the round adjustable door stop/support on the tail gate? |

Yeah it needs to be replaced the Panel is cracked pretty badly.. To the point where the rear window is the only thing keeping the door rigid... |

PICS didn't this thing have one of the door skin replaced, wonder if it's been in a reasonable crash & they reskinned the tail gate too? |

Whoa that copped a hit! Is that a crease at the very top of the door in the outside pic? |

Do you think they backed into a wall with the Spare tyre to cause that ? I re-checked the door the top lip is actually straight |

I re-checked the door the top lip is actually straight yeah something like that or being rear-ended, looks like a reasonable hit. a load of bog & some paint would cover up the dents on the outside, as i said before if they've re-skinned one door i'd be 2nd guessing the rest of the car. |

Is it just me or does the top crack have some mismatched paint around it? |

yeah i noticed that as well & have a look at the damage around the area of the lower crack, it's taken a fair old knock. |

Ah the joys of finding stuff AFTER you have bought it... I mean the Vehicle Inspector reported a door Rattle and suggested it was the locking mechanism.. I just checked it again via carhistory.com.au and it has indeed had no reported Insurance claims.. |

Would be worth pulling the rear bumper off and checking the rear crossmember/bumper support bar for damage. Cross member isn't something they can easily just patch over so should be pretty evident if its been in a major bingle. If crossmember shows no sign of damage, I say replace the barn door, forget about it and enjoy the car |

No damage to bumper or Re-inforcement bar.. Not even a scratch I am going to have to go with they backed into something and the tyre took the brunt of it.. I am more then happy to replace the rear door... IF I can find one some where... I still need to find out if the GV Door fits or do I have to specifically hunt down an XL-7 door.. |

pretty sure you'd have to pull the plastic bumper cover off to see if the bumper reo or the crossmember is bent. |

Wreckers if you want a quick replacement and are prepared to spend the $$. Failing that, scour gumtree for someone wrecking one privately if you can wait a little while. Should be able to pick one up for stuff all that way. Stuffed if I know where they are in relation to you, but I highly recommend New Model Wreckers (http://www.newmodelwreckers.com.au). Avo who works there is on the ball, and they are definitely one of the better wreckers I've dealt with. As a bonus they are almost always the cheapest as well (often being half the price of others). |

New door sourced for $100... OK its Green but I can live with that... All I have to do is mount the spare tyre carrier, swap the Key locks over, Allign and fit.. |

I backed into a van with my sierra/samuari bent the door a bit but nothing like that! I just have to slam it slightly and its fine, been 6-7 years like that now. |

Its all good... Found a door on Trading post for $100... fitted it... and it now closes with authority and not a half baked tinny wobble.. |
