you need to be careful in QLD with what they call it as different classes attract higher CTP rates

yep same in SA, but if it's a ute or panel van you can legally park in loading zones as it's classed as a commercial vehicle.

My soft top is registered as a ute, the hard top as a panel van and the tray back as a ute.

Not the case in QLD unfortunately. An APV is a 'VAN' on the tags, but is automaticly a commercial vehicle, as it was imported as such. This means a 1.6L 4cyl van that would fit inside some other vans has rego of $1300 p/a. (passenger 4cyl is around $650)

so all soft tops are utes in nsw thats crap. nsw is the same as QLD. different classes attract higher CTP rates if you call a sierra a ute its $100ish more then when you call it a 4wd

Nope. Up here, the only way you pay more is if it is a commercial vehcile. A sierra is still classed a s a passenger vehicle, and only attracts the standard 4cyl rego cost, regarless of having 'ute' written on the tag.

Be careful with this one, when I registered my SJ51T (Ute) the women in NRMA actually pulled up photos of Suzuki utes to make sure mine was a utility because of the CTP increase. Leads me to think that theres a grey area with soft tops that you can access the cheaper rate for CTP even though it says ute on your rego papers.

My brother had a soft top drover that he put a Suzuki grill/lights on, rego papers said it was a Holden ute, would of been fun if a cop ever questioned it lol
