Just putting new suspension bushes on my sierra. The kit comes with a little bag full of white grease/lube. Do i put this on the outside of the bush where it rubs against the spring and the chassis or on the inside where it rubs against the bolt, or both?

General consensus = dont use at all
Grease attracts sand. Sand + rubber + moving parts = bad

I don't know who General Consensus is, but I disagree.

Poly bushes get greased.
Rubber don't, but a small amount of the correct type of grease makes assembly so much easier.

I'm with Matthew on this - if they are polyurethane, grease them on the inside where the bolt passes through.

Rubber is standard OEM because it's cheap and it works, but almost every aftermarket suspension vendor either supplies poly as standard practice or offers it as an option - is there something they know that you don't?

Personally I would say they both have their place.

Yep, Like say, to be used as suspension components? :wink:

I used rubber bush's and smeared any parts that touch each other with rubber grease.

I'm sure Bruce will chime in here eventually as our resident poly guru.

Poly isn't Poly. The various grades can have a huge impact on performance and longevity. Just because you've had a bad experience with Poly bushes it would be very remiss of you to write them off entirely. They're a perfectly practical, durable and well performing solution if you use the correct ones for your intended usage.

can you find me a full set of replacement bushes that aren't poly for the calmini 3" vitara lift?

General Consensus outranks Major Problem, and both outrank Captain Obvious, but Captain Obvious says use Castrol LMM grease on inner and outer surfaces of Poly bushes, and soapy water only to fit Rubber bushes.

Do this, or Corporal Punishment will come down hard on your Privates.

They don't have to be harsh or brittle. I've fitted some bruce bushes (I think they were from bruce) and they are approximately as soft as rubber.

I haven't put any driving on them so I can't comment on lifespan, but they're certainly soft.

I got the same performance, flex and comfort wise, out of both Suzistore rubber and Bluemax poly but the poly ones lasted about 3 times as long.

I had Bruce make me poly bushes so soft I could make the fixed end of the spring twist till it touched the bolt

Ive had zero issues with poly.
Its only when you jam a shackle into the rocks that you peel off a bit of the mushroomed part, but you get that
