Post subject:  whats the best sierra???

G'day everyone just new to the site. I am looking to buy my first sierra as a daily and a offroad, I would really appreciate some handy advice like what suspension systems are best coil or leafs. Also what year is best, and also anything else that determines the best rig.

No rust in it and the oil stays in it.

Drive both and see what you prefer, I've had leafies and now a coily. And a couple of jimnys and i still don't know what my favourite is. They all have pros and cons

It all depends on how you weigh up the priorities.

If you're after the best on road sierra, it's a coiler. (in fact it's not a sierra at all, it's a vitara, but coilers are nice on road.)

If you're after an off road sierra, anything but a coiler, but other than that, it doesn't really matter, all the leaf sierras are awesome in different ways, but 1.3's are better and 1.3 LWB's are better still.

It depends what you want to do with it.

Stocker/lightly modified daily, coily.

Offroad weapon, 1.3l lwb.

Awesomeness, 1l! Armsup

For a lot of aftermarket options go a leafy as sideways said of its only gonna see light off-road work coilys are okay, but have a few issues

Post subject:  Re: whats the best sierra???

my recommendation is to get both :D

At the end of the day, try both and buy whatever blows your hair back!!

If you smile when you drive it :) that's your Zook

Edit: it's a highly addictive pursuit your embarking on!! If your worries about being predisposed to unhealthy levels of addictive behavior, take up recreational drug use or something.. Once you start you'll be hooked :) at least I was.. Hmmmmm, that tells me a bit of something about myself now doesn't it

Atleast there is a steady supply of #4 coily pistons for you to finish melting down and injecting into your veins

I've got it so bad, I forgot how many zooks I have. I recently said I've got 5.1 of them, I've got 6.1.

That makes for a total 11.1 cars and 3 bikes (I just gave one away). 6 of those are registered.

Everyone around here seems to bag out the coil version sierras. We have had some damn good fun in my mates one.

Beaches, mud, sand tracks, coil version just ate it up.

sure they have their lmitations compared to a leaf, but for general 4wding, camping, mucking about on the beach. Can't fault the coily.

I have not taken my leaf spring drover anywhere really, so i will be ineterseted to see the difference. I doubt i will see any difference in the terrain i intend on driving though.

You'll probably find all the gay softroaders from the likes of Kia/Daewoo/Hyundai would have "ate it up" as well.
You don't need to go too far to test the capabilities or find mechanical weakness though, just like a coily sierra.

Best sierra......that's a matter of personal opinion
For me, it's got to be the 96 Sierra (Maruti) ute wide track with the 1.3L donk (factory) :)

The leaf sprung sierra's will be easier to modify but the coily's will be nicer to drive as a daily
Also the LWB (long wheel base) sierra's are much more stable when it come to offroading

And I probably will a bit again when its back together. SOOOOO much fun, and insanely good on fuel. Does get tiring day in day out though when 90% of my commute is on a highway, but I have 2 other cars to swap between

As for "best Sierra". If I look at this from the perspective of unknown person, with unknown requirement wants a "Sierra", I would say buy a mid 90's Widetrack leaf sprung one. Why? Although possibly the worst offroad in bog stock form of all the Sierras, they are the easiest to upgrade anything on, they are newer than any of the 1980's stuff, and they are still reasonably plentiful. I probably wouldn't buy one myself again (my first car was a 91 Widetrack, still have it), but I have a more refined idea of what I expect out of my Suzuki after a while playing with them, and I am also a bit nuts...
