Hey all,

i have jimny with 3" lift and i want to replace my chocks to bilstein shocks (5125, 5165 style)
i am bit confusing with the value of dumping and rebound that i have to choose.

i know what the value means but i dont know what can fit to my car
i have not found the value of OME or Pro comp ES1000/3000 to compare

hope to find solution here

Email Russel at jimny bits and ask him, he sells pro comp and I think they are trail tough shocks. Other wise try KAP motorsport or Offroad armoury or really any of the overseas suppliers of jimny parts. If you have no luck is have a look on the big jimny forums.

I think you will be struggling to get valving information out of a shockabsorber supplier, i suspect they would want to keep that kind of information close to their chest...

But if you can get a hold of one, a good suspension mob can run them on their shock dyno.

Where do you intend on getting the bilsteins valved? can they offer any advice on what valving to go with?

Well i have to ask what you would do with data such as this? i suppose you could just ask the bilstein guys to match it, but then you might as well just buy the original shock?

As this kind of thing is what defines a shock absorber. (appart from the physical length, compressed and uncompressed)

apparnetly proper racecar shocks will supply a shock curve for you (ohlins, koni) etc. so you coudl try the big 4wd shock companies, but yer its kinda like giving out your designs though.

Theres plenty of information around on designing for race cars, but i dunno about 4wds. Id guess you would want quite 'soft' in the high speed region, and harder in the low speed? so it holds itself on flat, but when you hit a rock the wheel can move relatively easy.

I dunno just thinkin out loud...

Sounds to me like he wants "OME or Pro comp ES1000/3000 to compare" to bilstein shocks.

and my reply was i dont think you will get "OME or Pro comp ES1000/3000" valving information from the companys to compare to the bilstein.

Hey again,
i forgot to say that i live in israel and the local distributor is also the FOX distributor and he try to sell as much fox as he can, apart of this, the price of the shocks as his place is 3 times more than import by my self, so not an issue to talk with him about this.
i want the drive to be soft ad OME or a bit stiffer.
i already know the length, i have 3" lift spring and i want to replace my old (too short) shocks
i try to find over the net the parallel details of OME, PRO COMP, KONI and others but with now something that can help me to get the right shox from bilstein.
i try to see if someone fimiliar with these nubmers and can advise.
the next step is to talk with producer of the major of lift kit for jimny, but i doubt if they will give me this information

i think you'd have to put the OME's etc onto a shock dyno to get the numbers you're looking for... as others & yourself have said most manufactures would keep that info closely guarded.

have a look at some of the various motorsport teams in your area, some might have a inhouse shock dyno or know someone that has access to one.
