hey fellas im new on here. my old patrol is dying in the ass and i need a smaller replacement. i dont plan on doing a shitload of hardcore dtuff with it but somthing economical that i can do the 400km round trip too work (rough and dirt roads)and use for the odd beach trip, camping(possible cape and fnq trips), and abit of play from time to time. i have been considering the newer grand vit models (for the daily driver comforts). problem is i know nothing about them and there aint many seen around here, they anygood? do they have low range? any threads on here? i dont even no what the models are too search but i do know the capabilities of my mates old shorty square shape vit. |

Im guessing gv3 means grand vitara 3rd series? what about the shape from the early 2000's. i want somthing abit more comfortable than the early vit's ut reasonably capable. have considerd a jimny but the just dont have the room i want. |

GV3's are not that bad. With all the traction aids in them and driven by the Auto they are quite a capable car. |

Only the very newest ones have traction control. I own one and they are shit off road |

yeah compared to a well tweaked LJ i'd imagine they would be pretty average. |

The 400km round trip to work, is that daily? If it is don't get a v6 gv 98 -05. The fuel economy ain't that great in them. |

depends on what you call offroad. I've had a diesel for almost five years now and think it's pretty good (apart from the gearbox). Can handle easy to moderate offroading, its main problem is ground clearance. Have a look at these threads. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=38670 viewtopic.php?f=4&t=28428 viewtopic.php?t=33254 viewtopic.php?f=3&t=36025 viewtopic.php?f=3&t=38657 viewtopic.php?f=3&t=32209 viewtopic.php?f=3&t=31771 |

CHOP, nah mate got accomadation provided when i get there, that is not what i wanted to hear i thought they would be cheap to run that was one of the main things im looking for. after running 25km to the hundred in the petrol powerd patrol i realy want somthing economical. STEVE whats wrong the boxes in the diesals? what about those early 2000 models how do they go? |

in comparison to a patrol they are economical. even when towing my LJ behind on a trailer i get 7-8 kms to the litre. arround town i get 9.5 to 11 from my 2.7 2008 model. the new 2.4 petrol are even better. it also depends what you call moderate 4wding. driving on the beach = fine forestry tracks = fine any thing more than that i would go for the older one in a SWB with a j20a. you can get lockers fitted to these. |

the gearbox in my diesel is notchy, difficult to change, especially trying to go from second down to first, going up is fine. |
