So starting to try at nut out my air filter set up go my 1l with 4k engine. Have a d22 navara box and due to Clarence issues the box Must be on the passenger side
This is where I've decided would be the most suitable spot for it. Now I would like to be able to run a snorkle as its not really needed to get the car going or regoded it's not a nessecity and not on top of my parts list. My question is would this be a suitable set up to at least have minimual chance of water intergestion and excessive dust (will be driving mostly muddy tracks and I also travel up a lot of dirt roads some with fine bull dust)
Clearance is tight under to bonnet so any pre filters probably wouldn't have enough room.
This is the carby hat I had made by a mate I only have roughly 35 mm clearance from the carby to the bonnet the hat is only 25 mm high probably not the best flowing item but compared to the pod filter stick welded to a carby hat it used to have I think it should suffice.

Gwagensteves hiace box sits in a very similar position and I'm hoping he will add some needed information,. Sorry for the iPhone pics

I reckon it will be fine there Doug. I was smashing around in some pretty deep mud on the weekend - around 900mm judging form the tide mark on the door - and I was cutting back and forwards in it to make progess - the worst case scenario.

I have had a splash of water inside the inlet tube but no water reached the filter.

The old setup I had with the 660cc motor was the same too - no issues.

Here's some photos to show how much crap was getting flung around.





That pour mark on the guard is from mud flowing out of the engine bay, not off the bonnet, so the engine bay was very, very full of water.

The inside of the filter box - sure there's a splash of water in there, but that's not going to hurt anything.

Gwagen steve completely off topic! I see your garmin GPS on the bench there. How do you find it? I've had one for awhile but ill actually be using it over Easter in some very dense nsw bush land!

It was fine, but I just use my iPhone with a Tom Tom base now.

I used an external antenna with it.

Did u have problems acquiring satellites?

No, not at all, but the external antenna certainly helped a lot.

Ultimately I was really using it mostly as a speedo and as I had the phone with me anyway, it made more sense to use that. The TomTom base has an extended GPS antenna in it anyway and I have no issues with signal strength with that, and I can use nav/mapping which my model of garmin didn't support.
