i'm looking at moving my front shackle mounts forward so i can use shorter shackles but i was wondering will this give me more or less travel and how far should the mounts be moved foward? Cheers Mike |

work out how long the spring is along the leaf, work out how long you want your shackle and whats the max angle you want the shackle to be under (I think about 60degrees they can invert) then some maths to work it out will tell you how far apart the mounts need to be, simple or just figure how much longer than stock they are and move it that much, doubt youll lose any flex |

wouldn't i loose down travel with shorter shackles and the mounts moved forward? |

possible but the spring might have more flex in it if alowed to drop more freely and for how it was designed with smaller shackles. you will also loose a bit of hieght but that is obvious |

unless you can make the shackle point at the diff on full droop then I very much doubt it |

so how much further forward should the front mounts be then? |

haha what is the maths involved? what i meant to ask was what setups have people used before that worked well? |

I think 3" is the common amount |

Since you're using a rear spring, wouldnt you just measure how far apart the spring and shackle hangers are in the rear and make the front the same? |

but wouldn't that make the front flex like the rear does standard? |

yeah but with more weight over it |

how is that benefictial? are there any benefits of having a chassis extention over having longer shackles? |

Damo wrote: but wouldn't that make the front flex like the rear does standard? The distance that these are apart isn't really what is affecting wheel travel. It's the spring rate and the fact you've got a longer main leaf. Mike wrote: how is that benefictial? are there any benefits of having a chassis extention over having longer shackles?
Usually you will get droop with longer shackles. The benefit of going with a chassis extension is that you can keep the stock shackles. Some may not see it as a benefit, YMMV. |

so really chassis extentions only benefit ride quailty and on road performance? |

shorter shackles are a shit load more stable, better approach angle too |

what about getting one of these: http://www.rocky-road.com/ruf.html it wouldnt cost much to make and once you've made one you can put up the dimensions sto show us all how to do it |
