I took mine to a local small mechanic.. He had it done pretty quick for 40 odd clams.. Prob only took him a minute to do, but he did get it done quick without having to book it in or anything

The bearing "can" be bashed on with some thick walled pipe, its the locking collar that goes behind it that as I understand it needs a little heat from a oxy / lpg plant / oven?? to chuck on behind it. Yes I have done some and used a press for the bearing (I havn't measured but must be a size for size or vfkn close) and the collar "must" be .01 under - have heated them up and "chucked" them on... |

viewtopic.php?t=8728 In this thread they've popped the axle in the freezer for a cpl days and lightly oven baked the bearings to put them on.. That's a cheap way!! Can't testify how effective it is, I haven't tried it

if at work , i will heat a block of steel with the oxy, sit shrink ring on this for a while, then fit.........with a bit of pipe (quicker and easier than using the press). If at home, bit of flat bar on the stove top, and put shrink ring on that, just takes a bit longer to heat....then do the same. |

Had a problem with a mates 70's Celica yrs ago, supplied shrink rings moving......fitted cold and hot. Ended up taking a light cut on the axle and making 4140 rings with something like .006" interferance. Heat shrunk on......they didn't move. Tho very rare, and never seen it with a wheel brg, i have seen a bearing crack the inner race from cold fitting to a pump shaft. It was not seen on assembly and lasted maybe 5hrs before it, and the the pump destroyed itself......Sumitomo 7T excavator, big $$$$ repair bill. |

Had a hell of a time pressing mine on. Didn't help that the backing plate made it difficult to support it. |
