One of these would be better. with some decent HID's on the front for distance if thats what you're after.

I thought that the glare on a bonnet would be worse with an LED bar then HID lights.

It would be. HID spots really shouldnt have any glare on bonnet.

But, I really have no desire to put lights on my windscreen. LED bar and some small HID spots on the front is plenty.

that's my zook. no glare on bonnet at all. I had hid narvas on the front and I pulled them off. the lightbar shat all over them to the point I didn't even notice when they were on or not.

the single row bars I sell now are even brighter than those dual rows and would be even nicer mounted up on the roof.

www.kpd4x4.com for more info on the bars. they aren't as cheap as some other junk like tigeez111 or whatever but you get what you pay for.

Yeah I knew that was your car dank, and without being rude I doubt the paint on your bonnet would be glossy enough to create glare.

I guess it's different to a 2pac pollished bonnet...

Would depend on reflector design also.

I painted my Moke bonnet with matt black chalk board paint, stopped all glare from lights and the sun

I had a cheap Chinese LED bar mounted in basically the same sort of spot as Dank and again I didn't have any reflection off the bonnet. The bars tend to have a very distinct line of light so it's easy to set the bottom of the projected light just above the end of the bonnet and you shouldn't have any problems.

I have 4 narvas on my roof rack, bonnet glare is pretty bad, might have to steal your idea of painting the bonnet matte black

the color of the bonnet makes a massive difference to reflection back to the driver.
dark colored bonnet will be a 1000 times better than say a white or red bonnet.

X2... I have 4 hid spot beams on my roof and it gives a ridiculous amount of glare of the bonnet. Mines silver, I reckon the gloss in the clear has a lot to do with it... Matte colours would be 100x better

there is a way to set up roof lights so you don't get any glare on the bonnet... it's actually quite logical.

imagine the side profile of the car & draw a straight line from the highest point on the leading edge on the bonnet, back to the highest point on the roof line above the A pillar & continue it on, mount your spotlights behind that line & you won't have any glare on your bonnet.

That does sound logical... I still think you'd get a bit of glare though. Be ok I spose if you didn't use your roof to carry anything. You'd have to sit your lights a fair way back to do this.

Ill check mine out when the sun comes up and see how far off it is from what you describe.

Moving the lights back wont stop glare timmy
unless u move them soo far back that the roof blocks anything going down.

also sit a shit load higher too.

i'm not silly enough to had lights perched up on top of a roof basket like that, mine were only small & tucked inside the basket either side of the wind deflector. must be a heaps of a wind drag & slow as shit on the open road. :thefinger:

draw a line as i said & look where it intersects the lights... if they were mounted to the lower tube you'd probably have no glare what so ever & still light up the ground just in front of the bar.

Post subject:  Re: lights on the roof

Yeah I get what you're saying. They can't be mounted to the lower bar because of the depth on the spotties, so like I said earlier to do what you were saying with the line etc, the top of the light would have to be underneath the line and therefore probably 1/3 or more to the back of the roof.

Jimnys are slow as shit to start with, ESP with 30's and reduction

Isnt doing this illegal in QLD?

Possibly, but if you aren't using them on road (or don't get caught) then I can't see the problem?

Post subject:  Re: lights on the roof

There was a discussion about legalities of roof lights in Qld a few years back. Someone posted a link to somewhere (?) that said lights could be mounted at any height but no wider than factory main beam. Besides, aren't we dealing with the NCOP now? When I get back to civilisation again I will try and find that link

Once apon a time lights over 1.4m were illegal but its not changed to an operation thing, IE up there must only work with high beam
Lights on top of a bull bar have always been illegal, under teh same rules as rod holders, reduce visability and a hazard to pedestrians

Then we have the awesome single light thing some power tripper at DOT come up with and having to block the middle section out

Post subject:  Re: lights on the roof

I was of understanding lights on top were fine as long as symettrical, IE not an odd number. Maybe that was underbar.
read somewhere they were avoiding that by putting black tape on the LED bar to make it "2". Im not kidding. and apparantly cop said it was fine.

Oh well ill play stupid for now, Ill take it off the car if i get pulled up.
