Hey people,
My name is Michael, 4 weeks ago i decided to go get myself a jimny!
its a black 1999 jlx 140km on the clock & all the extras, snorkel, a set of BF muddies (215x75r15), roof cage and a bit of a sound system...
So i took her off road for the first time and i spat the dummy... she goes into 4x4 hi and low no problems but the hubs click on and off at the same time the 4x4 light does... i have read several ways on how to fix problems with the auto hubs but i think my drama is a little different... If i hold the transfer shifter in a certain position its ok, the 4x4 light stays on and the auto hubs stay engaged... im pretty stumped here so ill try any suggestion that gets thrown my way... thanks in advance

4wd switch on the transfer case mate. Easy fix. Unbolt the old one, unplug and replace.

Cos im a good bloke i tracked it down for you. The sierra ones are the same as Jimny, ive swapped them before.

If your not aware the switch sends a signal to the 4wd module under the dash which tells the auto hub vacuum solenoids when to open/close, which sends vacuum to the hubs. Basically, that switch has sticky contacts.

His 4wd light will still be stuffed though. and solenoids would still click away like crazy.

Get the 20 dollar switch, and save up for hubs. Berts correct, they are awesome.

Hahahaha I've just taken the transfer out of the car and In looking at the shifter bushes... Then I decide to log on and check to see if anybody's responded! Ahh well time to chuck the transfer back in the car

Your rite scales, the solenoid was really sticky so I've ordered a new one with the link u sent me ... Over all the transfer looks really clean, I serviced the motor today but in 2 weeks im installing an extreme clutch so at the same time I'll change the gearbox oil as well as the transfer and diffs... I'm really interested in reduction gears only if they don't hurt every day driving. I'm really wanting to get some offset wheels with all terrains.

I take it you mean switch? good to hear, you could probably clean it and get it going short term, but for 20 bucks its not worth it. It'll just fail again.


As for reduction gears, do your research on here mate. I can give you the short version: The way to go is swap the case with a sierra case and put reduction gears in that.
(its what I have, and most other blokes have done)
