Hi just after a bit of help for my brother in law and sister their 2006 v6 grand vitara (new shape) it has about 100,000kms on the clock and lately they have had trouble when going to take off it is jumping out of first gear, me brother in law isn't very mechanically minded so i'm trying to get some ideas fro him a few things i have thought it could be is- worn clutch (not letting it go in to gear properly), shifter bush or linkage issue (letting it pop out / not go into gear properly) or worn syncro's or gears in the gear box allowing it to jump out of gear. They do tow a small pop top caravan with it which is only a couple hundred kg's off the maximum tow capacity if this would cause problems with the gear box (loading the box up taking off on hills etc.) Any help would be greatly appreciated as they dont have lots of money to start replacing stuf trying to find the problem
It's a case of the hub not totally engaging over the gear. It could be either a worn linkage in the box or the fork itself is worn. I had a Jackeroo doing the same thing, turned out the fork had a bad groove in it and wasn't pushing the hub far enough. I had a gearbox place do a few sneaky grinds here and there and got it workable for $400. I did all the R&R and stripping/reassembling.
