Howdy all,
Been looking at getting some driving lights for my 2007 vitara trekker.
Had a bit of a search on here and a few other sites but have come up empty handed with a good substitue for the push switch that is used for the fog lights.

Has anyone found a switch that matches?
Did find a nice switch with zombie lights written on it. Perfect for those roof lights!

I used the actual fog switch purchased on ebay for my driving lights.

on this, does any one know if the loom for driving lights is in place in all of the GVs even though they didnt have lights fitted from the factory?
i'd like to fit them to mine but dont really wanna have to do the wiring so if the loom is there i'll give it a crack

Loom for driving lights? No such thing...

Depending on the year of manufacture and the country they were intended for, a GV should have the wiring in place for fog lights - even though my 98 had the cut outs in the front bumper, front fogs were never an option, so there was no wiring for front fogs, however a rear fog was an option and that is the connector I used after "re-pinning" it to suit my needs and creating my own harness.

Fog lights are for low beam. Driving lights are for high beam, hardly the same thing.

i asked about factory loom options for auxillery lights, not what they were called
this place some times!!

Actually - it's more than just semantics - if you did have the fog light loom, it would not be wired correctly for driving lights - for the reason that shep has pointed out - you would have to move at least move one wire.

It's illegal to have Driving Lights wired so they come on unless you're on High Beam.

I have the Suzuki Factory option Fog lights fitted and they will work on High, Low, Parkers and even with no lights on at all! The factory kit comes with the switch, a relay and some wiring from under the headlight to the fog units, so the loom does incorporate part of the circuitry from the dash to the bumper, but it is completely independant of the headlight circuit.

I did this conversion on my foglight wiring a few weeks back, yes it can be done using the factory wiring, without running wires through the firewall or to the proposed driving lights, although it wasn't straight forward.

It will help if you have a wiring manual for the car to understand the "switched negative" light circuits, mine is a 2004 tho so may not be exactly the same as the 2007 that is in question.

You will need to find the high beam switched negative , I couldn't find a connector easily under the dash so I opened the loom under the dash and soldered a feed from it to my driving light switch.

There was a tricky bit with this "switched negative" setup in that the foglight's factory relay coil wiring changed state when the headlight switch was OFF / ON, the easiest fix here since there were two spare fuse positions in the engine compartment fuse box (adjacent the relay socket), was to provide a new 12v feed to the driving light relay coil so that the relay would have 12v on both sides of the coil when the headlight switch was OFF (to ensure that the driving light relay will not energise when the light switch is off).

As others have mentioned the driving lights must only operate on high beam and have a switch to disable the driving lights if necessary.

I used a supercheap illuminated switch, which with a slight trim fitted into the factory switch recess (the change of state with the fog light wiring actually helps here so that my illumination light operates when required).

If you are handy with wiring, relays and a multi-meter, and have some patience it is do-able. You will need to be able to remove a factory terminal from the relay socket, make another terminal to click into the relay socket and fuse socket, and solder and crimp the wiring for your driving light switch.
