Ok guys here it is, hit me with your ideas! My brother has a gu pootrol 4" lift, 35,s etc etc and the thing goes just about anywhere with ease! Guidelines for jimny mods are simple must be road driven! Jimny MUST out wheel or at least keep up with pootrol! This is a list of what's been done already to jimny. 3" jb lift kit with adjustable shocks Trialjimny 24% reduction gears Exedy hd clutch 31" 764 bighorns Onboard dr air compressor Dual batteries Custom bullbar Xrox style Custom rocksliders 9500lb winch and plasma rope Full underbody armour Rear seats removed 40ltr waeco fitted(this is best mod yet and considered mandatory!) Extractors fitted soon 2" zorst Snorkel Roof basket and enough lights to turn night into day! Have 2" body lift sitting in garage not fitted(not needed??) Wish list Sway bar disconnects Arb front and rear lockers but price scares the crap out of me 1.6ltr efi engine Power steer Drawer/fridge slide system Wheel spacers(offroad use only) Any other mods and I am sure the list is long please contribute!!!

honestly, if you lock both ends of whhat you already have you will keep up in 99% of places.
the other 1% of places will be tracks where your not really long enough to go in a jimny any way.

look back at your list, and consider how much weight you just added to the car too...

Yes I agree and most is intentional trying to get a decent low centre of gravity, wider wheel track for extra stability whilst still having enough ground clearance so don't get hung up every 6ft. Hence the 1.6ltr being on the desired list when funds allow... And the fact the 1.3 has done around 350,000kms and although running fine I expect it's a little tired. With the 764 bighorns 31" I am unsure, really wanted 33,s but have doubts about 24% reduction being enough and DON'T want to be driving a clutch slipping underpowered pig so not sure if the extra 1" diff clearance would be worth it?

take a look at Monley's jimny build thread - he ran 31's and broke pretty much everything in his driveline at least once - and he was running the 1.3!

Yes breakage is not what I call desirable or fun when well past a civilized recovery location. This build also must be at least somewhat reliable.

buy and build some thing else then, a jimny is going to be extremely expensive to build to the levels your talking about and keep relyable. IMO

Nooo gotta keep the Jimny! Lol I have owned around 20+ cars in my lifetime and the Jim has to rank in my top 5 of most loved cars!!! Don't think I will ever get rid of it as I regret selling my favorite cars now and still wish I had them!

if you're going to wheel it, it's going to break... just ask monley, from bent diffs to broken gearboxes & everything in between.

Ok engineer perspective They won't like the 31's. They won't like the 2"bodylift ontop of the 3" spring Everything else will be engineerable. 3/4 of that list doesnt need to be engineered But of course it depends on the engineer, Not the RMS/RTA.

Their a small lightweight 4x4, so you build using this to its best advantage. So instead of making the track as wide as possible, build using the narrower track to stay out of the ruts the patrols are running in. You can get some awesome front and rear bumper replacements out of Japan that will give you a really good approach and departure angles. Add in front and rear lockers, low ratio gearing, lightweight 31" diameter wheels and tyres that aren't redneck 10.5's or 12.5'sx15's and you'd have a pretty awesome vehicle. Look at the approach angle with this front end treatment.

Hmmm I agree with everything you have stated with the exception of wheel track, I don't know if taking chicken tracks and dodging ruts is any fun or even considered wheeling but one thing I do know is how easy a jimny turns into a turtle! With the lift the wheel track is something to be considered, whether or not it's "redneck" is in the eye of each individual I guess, but to me a car on its side or roof = FAIL! Not fun. I have put the jimny on its side and know now just how easily this can happen and that was with 225 tyres no lift. I Agee with the stuff in the pic and please if you could direct me to the bonnet and front apron in pics this would be awesome! Looks like 2 peice job? As my winch gear lever fouls with standard jimny bonnet, not a issue but pisses me off and if 2 peice setup would cure this drama.

Measure the diff clearance on the troll, then measure it on the Jimny. You need the huge tyres on a troll for clearance because the pumpkin is huge. The jimny can match the ground clearance with smaller tyres.

For you to say that the clearance is better,?? Im a suzuki fan through and through, but the maths your throwing out doesnt add up.

Wait until he measures it. He might need 30's, he might need 32's. He won't know until he measures it.

You must have poured a fortune into the Jimny already, but none of the mods will help you slay the 'troll as well as the airlockers you can't afford. The excess weight also won't help. Also you won't stay with the 'troll unless you ease up on the height a bit. I've really only wheeled with 1 Jimny, that was Bugsta, his one goes okay but not without gearing and not after it breaks a CV or the clutch catches fire (inevitable when he didn't have gears in). His has 7.50/16s on it and that was plenty of tyre, can't remember how he cleared them but I think he had bodylift and suspension lift, as well as an angle grinder. So my vote is front axle and CV upgrade, airlockers, gears, suspension and moderate size tyres. Barwork too.

What ever you do to the Jimmy, the patrol will be better. jimnys break way to easy with big tyres. Get a sierra if you want to keep up with it.
I wouldn't run body lift, sell your coils and run 40 or 50mm coils. Trim your guards and add bumper stops. Get lockers you won't look back. CV upgrade is a must. shave your pumpkins. At the end of the day your brother will go further most of the time.

Ok thanks guys so this is what I am hearing so far,... Fit the air lockers. 1.6ltr conversion to offset extra weight. Diff bracing. Chromoly cv,s if or when I break mine.
Question time regarding sierras Why are Sierra SOOO much better than a Jimny? I know extra choice with gearing but what else makes them the be all and end all of zooks? The leaf sprung Sierra surely would have as much flex as a brick, they are older and less comfortable to travel in, so why the major issue between the two?

the front diff & radius arm suspension design is shocking in the jimny's for starters

This is what Monley will say like his said a billion times before "The trial jimmy gears are not low enough for 31s"
And most of that list is a joke mate.
Your talking about a 1tonne car and your not I'm proving traction or wheel travel on any level.
If you want a troll slayer, that is reliable then build this. AirLockers Sierra tcase (with gearing(4.9/5.14/6.5)) 3" spring lift as Jimny's have super low chassis compared to a Sierra, this doesn't fix the worse then Sierra flex, you will need to get creative. And for 31s you will need chromo's. I can't keep my CVs together with 29s. And well fitted bar work.
The rest of it is what I would call "un-helpful"

this is a brick? seriously though, no one is saying that a jimny cannot be made to out drive a Patrol. Personally our driving crew regularly take our suzukis where a patrol on 35s would balk at following. But then 35s are pretty small for a patrol. Sierras arent nessessarily the best either, but where they beat a jimny is in the aftermarket support, gearing options both diff and transfer. cromo shafts. kits for engine conversions. the list goes on. the are also easier to chop for bigger wheels.

so your pretty much gonna have to go to 33s to have more diff clearance.
33s on a jimny is gonna equal massive work

I just am not content to gather my mates and have a flex comp in woolies car park with a little gutter hopper! No it's not a tuff truck nor have I ever once stated it would be or aspired towards that..... But regardless of what all the haters here who have bashed the idea or mentioned selling and buying a car I want no part of, what is the problem with asking fellow Suzuki owners who may have knowledge in what I am trying to achieve? Regardless of whether or not you think it would fit YOUR budget or YOUR taste or what you require from a 4wd! There is a hell of a lot of bashers on this forum, if your car don't fit into the pissy 2" lifted, mums tyres and dico ball or fluffy dice hanging from mirror everyone seems to think it won't be possible, to costly, can't be done bullshit! Get a life all you haters... Just stop and consider your ultimate weapon may just be a peice of crap in other peoples eyes! To all who have or are interested in positive input, THANK YOU! I understand some things to improve the jimny may be costly or a lot of work....so what time to save or break out the tools, please don't just say wont work or it will break.... I am also after help so answers or input like cv,s will shit themselves, ok so where do I get chromoly ones? Links would be great! Lots of work to do that? Explaine please what NEEDS to be done and then I can either do it or ditch the idea..... It's not hard guys but it is hard work with asking a Suzuki forum for help and receiving negative crap and flamingos because it may not fit into the normal category.
