Went for a wheel/shoot today.. drove through a puddle that was about sill height.

Car drove fine and as per usual for the next 3 hours... got on the hwy, cruised on home in 5th for about 40 mins.
Come to first set of lights off the hwy, go to take off and the car stalls.. a litlle difficault to get back into gear.

Next set of lights same thing.. Then approach the third set and I couldnt get the lever into gear at all..

Will slip into gears fine when car is not running.. however if i then put my foot on the clutch as if i was going to start the car whilst in gear, it lunges forward as though the clutch pedal isnt pressed..
It grinds when trying to get into reverse whilst car is running aswell.

Tightened up ALL slack in the cable and was able to get home..seems weird that it happened so randomly!.. now it wont go into gear again..

clucth was replaced about 6- 8 months ago.

wtf happened :? :?:

cheers boys!

Maybe seized the throwout bearing and it spun off the tags, or if you're lucky the clutch arm broke or bent.

Your cable is dead as royce mentioned or you have packed the pressure plate with mud. Did you change gears in this 'puddle'?

no changing gears... cable is original and has a stuffed outer sheath in one spot.. will replace and hopefully thats the problem!
thanks alot fellas!

since this is pretty much what is going on with mine but mine is weird (new cable/clutch). like ^^^ said above, car will drive fine....come to stop and the clutch looses all adjustment. really hard to get into gear and grinds for reverse. pull over and adjust the cable and all good. drive for a little bit longer and it happens again, re-adjust ect ect.

The cable is after market and is about 5-7thou old, same as clutch. Used to only happen after a long day of driving but over the last few days its been minutes or hrs. had a look over the cable and it seems fine, had a look at the peddle box for any bent rods/brackets, looked at the g/box end of the cable and it all looks to be hunky doory.

Any more ideas? Car is going into the mech to get an oil done under warranty (recon motor) and have told them about this isssue, unless i find it first.

sorry for the hijack.

New clutch cable fitted and she is all sweet. Just need to adjust it so the clutch grabs sooner. Atm it's grabbing half way up..would I do that from the pedal or cable?

loosen the cable a bit, or wait a few days it will stretch to the same place

yeah but every few days i have to keep adjusting it. its like its stretching more and more, dont know why a long day of driving would effect it. wouldnt think heat would change anything for a clutch cable.

Perhaps the locknuts are spinning loose?

Nah doubt it, i use a small spanner to turn the nut and one to hold the cable. Just a touch to tight to do by hand. will put draw line on it tho and see if it is moving. good thought.

Who knows, they might be moving! I do mine up as tight as I can with a spanner that I'd use to undo it in the bush if I had too! Ie ( by tight I'm not meaning slipping a tube over the spanner and cranking it right up!

mate turns out my clutch pedal was cracked, were the pedal pivots around the mount. Apparently its not uncommon, easy as just pulling it out and welding it up. Have a real good look up there as, when i first looked i didnt see anything.

hope its not the same for you, how old is ur cable? might just be stretching

The cables need to be set up as per the fsm. Also needs to be clipped into the radiator pipe properly.

The only time I have killed good cables is with a heavy duty clutch, also if you are in the bush you can fix the cables with cable ties.
This cable looked like to one in the post above and the repair lasted for months

well just a bit of a heads up, turns out the fingers on the clutch were bent and at different heights, also put some new grease on the thrust washer ect. HOPING this is the last of the issue.

VonDecoy- hows yours going?
