Hi all,

Does anyone live near darwin that can help me fix my jimny gearbox not rediculously expensively, have an affordable vvt gearbox(somewhere around a grand) used OR know of another type of gearbox that will fit the 2006 Jimny vvt.... the cost of people to even look at it up here is crazy I use to fix my sierra with a friend, but have been too scared to start on the 2006 Jimny without advice.
Basically... 20 hours on arnham land road vibrations in 4th gear has left my 4th gear selecter popping out when I accelerate

OK here are the stats I've found so far:
caught up with a fellow Zooker in Darwin and he suggests its nothing simple (oil or selector or bush), note these simptoms...:
1. 4th gear pops out (mainly when accellerating)
2. gears not sloppy (or not sloppier then usual for Jimny)
3. gear actually feels tighter in 4th before popping out
4. doesn't crunch into gears
5. it seems to go into each gear equally easily
6. occured after staying in 4 gear for 20 hours on shakey arnhamland road

fellow zooker (thanks Joel) after looking at it suggests (apparently more likely cos no crunching) something like the bush and spring that holds the gear in place, so...
but it goes in just as easy into fourth gear as the others so maybe not this spring either?

is there ANYONE in darwin area that can help me fix this without me having to morgage the house I don't have... or
is there ANYONE in the country that has a vvt gearbox, refurbished or used

Have an idea...
if the detent notch for fourth gear is worn from all those vibrations, in the direction of the neutral detent notch... could this cause the above symptoms?
Just a thought from looking at some diagrams??
any ideas would be appreciated...
I assume if it was the springs of the detent, that 3rd would also pop out or at least they would feel different from the others moving into gear... in Jimny do they go 3rd nuetral then 4th detent on the selector rod?
or is the groove in the selector rod to tough to ever degrade accross with 20hours of vibration in 4th gear...
if so could it be something in the front/back shaft hood area? (suggested by great guy up here but I may not be explaining it properly)
Just looking for some experienced advice/confirmation here? I can only find the gearbox diagram for other cars does anyone have a jimny vvt diagram...

I think it would be very unlikely that rough roads would wreck a gearbox, after all my lwb has done around 20000km on the crappiest Arnhem Land roads and still worked like a new one. I would give it a service and change the shifter bush. Start at the cheap easy stuff first before jumping in and replacing everything.

Even a incorrectly adjusted clutch cable can cause issues with gear selection.

Dead circlip or shim on the main shaft?

Another thing to check is motor and gearbox mounts.

SHIT can't believe I missed this looks like the rear output seal of the gearbox is leaking oil... does that help?

Thanks "Shep" but if it was the selector bush wouldn't it feel sloppy in the gears (it doesn't feel anything unusual- no crunching or sloppiness)
How do I check an incorrectly adjusted clutch and the mounts you speak of? could this go from fine to start happening after a big drive? wouldn't this effect all gears not just 1 gear? p.s. done many ks (more like 40000 on arhnamlandlike roads, the 20hours I mentioned was just the last trip)

"sideways" which circlip, is this circlip you speak of inside the gearbox? I can't check anything inside to far (e.g. Shims) I'm not that advanced....
