Post subject:  noobie. building a BIG vitara. offer advice.
ill keep it simple. just bought 95 vitara 2.0 v6. bought it to turn into a CHEAP beast. not for road use and trailered everywhere. going to strip it and have some different ideas that id like help with. 6" lift 33's cut the guards up etc. how will it cope. i had a sierra that was fine on 31's yrs ago. i figured with the 2.0 should be fine??? also how easily are parts like this? is there advantages to using proper lift kits etc rather than second hand put together mods?? if u get what im saying. i just want a cheap toy at this stage. also what other qucik cheap things can i do to make it more...wild looking. cheers.
ps. havent been in 4x4 sceene for 7 yrs or so. where to go around here? is there any tracks at ormeau anymore or is that all houses now? thanx

33's are going to bring the sad panda's, CV's are going to be the main issue followed by fixing the gearing, neither are going to be cheap to fix.

IMO you need to buy a hilux.

Have you done any research at all, or have you just told us what you think will look cool? I agree, 33's and 6" of lift would look cool on an SV, but it's going to break quicker than hillbilly's twigs. There's miles of tech on here on vitara builds and overcoming the weak links. It's not going to be cheap or easy.

In short, if you want a tall car on 33's for flogging in the bush a vitara is a terrible place to start. I too think you should buy a hilux or patrol.

weld the front diff & get a 8" bodylift, should be plenty of room for the tyres

yeh got a little too excited there and didnt think before typing. my bad. let me start again. what are basic upgrades i can do. where can i find/what should i get for more like a 2" suspension and 1" body lift??? would that be more realistic? ive only just bought it, so im just trying to keep myself occupied til i can start working on it.

Read Atari's build thread over and over. It's pretty much state of the art for an SV build.

I've seen SV's build bigger, but they were flaky.

It's "offroad" only as he said above. Plus it'll be better than a 6" suspension lift :lol:

That 3" body lift is a pile of poo, along with the struts, the rear shocks, the rear heim joint, if you carry load the rear springs, and if you don't carry load the front springs.

Not a solution in my book.

The Calmini kit is pretty cheap compared to buying kits for toyotas and nissans etc.

ive noticed on some overseas threads guys that have used diffferent springs out of other vehicles. grand vitara etc? anyone got anything to say about that. yeah i was looking at the calmini. seen one for 1200. in the long run its probably the cheaper way to go. but yeah too expensive for the moment.

can't get any cheaper than my last LWB build.

Vitara - $500 (not rego'd)
coil spacers - $200 (6x 30mm)
front springs - $0 (stock)
rear springs - $0 (Honda accord fronts)
body lift - $200
15x8 rims - $200
32" tyres - $1000 (4 new ones too)
Mini Spool - $150 (was a birthday pressies anyway)
welding front diff - $0 ($30 of oil for front and rear diffs)
long rear shocks - $200
rear upper ball joint spacer - made it
front strut spacers - made them too

= $2450 + normal servicing stuff (another $200)

then some tunes - $200 special at supercheap
then a new clutch - $100

so all up about $2850 and good to go.

everything else on it was from stuff I already had, front bar and spotties, awning, and even front struts were from my last one.

Auto or manual? 4 door?

2" spring spacers all round ( low range or Bruce on here)
2" body lift( just cruising on here )
Trim rest of guards to clear 33" tyres and some bump stop spacers in it made from c channel, vn- vr wagon rear shocks in the back. That will get you going.

After that look at a locker in the back, front diff drop spacers well help you not keep busting cv's or do the lux cv swap.

I'm about to do another Vitara again as we'll when I find one. I'd go 31" over 33 if its going to be daily driven. There is a old vitara build on here of my last vit on 31"

rear coils I used were standard fronts from a 93 Honda accord. these do not seat as good as the Nissan 180sx standard rears, but they do lift about an inch or two more.

EDIT: the Honda accord front coils in the rear lift the 4 door vitara more than the front with standard springs and a 60mm coil spacer!!! beware.
