I have got a sierra WT transfer case to put in my 99 jimny, doing a full build on it have posted many questions on here already and got lots of helpful info (thanks guys) and now I need to know what engine conversions I can run in it that can be engineered, as well as give more torque.

I read many have gone for a 1.6l conversion, but also noticed a few posts that suggest a J20a engine. (From a vitara? whats the 1.6l from?)

Has anyone done a J20a? I would like to stick with suzuki components as much as possible - not interested in dropping in a v6 or anything. Needs to suit rest of build (2-3 inch lift, 50mm on the body, longer bump stops and ill be cutting alot off the wheel arches - probably wont have the wheel arch, front and rear bumper, side skirt covers on it at all I think I will replace it all with bar work but still deciding) wanting to run 31's at the most (although I have taken into account most people have suggested 2 inch lift, 2 inch body and longer bump stops are all thats needed I would like to try a few things out for myself and if I find it does not work out ill start from scratch).

So please any info on the pros and cons of the different engine conversions that can be done would be appreciated.

No idea about the engine but run bar work! Since I've owned mine the panels are getting at least 1 dint a week!

Yeh there will be plenty of bar work on it - most likely a full exo on it. Not particularly worried about panel damage (although I will try to minimize it) as its strictly a weekender for play

I looked at a few I was originally going to get a sierra but a number of things made me go for a jimny:
1. I could not find any hard top sierras at the time I was ready to buy (really did not want a soft top)
2. The headroom in the jimny was great as my head did not rub on the roof
3. I was looking for a 4wd to take the kids in (ages 2-4) and air con on a hot summer day makes a HUGE difference for that
4. I looked into it and decided I can build a jimny to handle what I want it to do (although it would not be a typically modified jimny)
5. This one popped up at a great price (3300 for a 99 jimny, 2 inch OME suspension 6 months old, Snorkel fitted, Roof racks fitted, sound system 3 months old, GPS with Oziexplora software with all the topographic maps loaded also hooked up to reverse camera and stores all the music/multimedia, not a spot of rust on it the interior is very nice the paint is a little rough but i didnt care, 6 month old arb rear air locker installed and arb air compressor and some aftermarket tyres which are only retreads so they will be going. Also the flywheel was machined, new clutch, new uni joints, new brake discs and pads on the front and the rear had been machined and new pads all in the last 12 months and new battery. Pretty much the guy I bought it off had spent a bit over 5700 in the last 13 months on it according to the reciepts I got with it - and it had fresh 12 months rego. took it for a big test run it handled so well and drove so nice on the freeway.
6. There are alot of really awsome hardcore sierras around me, but all were soft tops and many had rust issues as well as even though they were jacked, none were set up correctly, they were stiff, they didnt flex, they were rough to drive etc - just wanted something a little different.

I haven't done it yet, but J20+AW4 is my plan. the G13bb is the same mounts and bell housing as a Sierra and uses the sane gear box. So buy BenT's 1600 Kit and it should pretty much bolt in.

If you do do it I would love to come and check it out.

31zook with J20 and aw4 how much work is there in that? im gonna get my misus another car to run around town and would love to have a bit extra oomph mainly just to cruise on the highway

Allot more then a car just for the Mrs to drive around in.

I havnt done it yet so my guesses are pumping the tunnel, and making the rest fit...

Yeh keen to do it and get started on the build - still just collecting information so I know exactly what I need to get as I hate to string out a build, waiting on a bike to sell to fund it but I messaged you about getting in contact to discuss the build so will do it when I am a bit closer to moving forward with it and we will see exactly what these jimnys are capable of
