Hey all.
Need some advice from those in the know..... :mrgreen: So here it is. Enquiring on options on how I can go about getting front recovery point/s

Current setup. Which as you can see is quite pointless as the nudgebar plate is in the way, won't even be able to get a shackle onto it. Also with the whole body work in front of it no chance of getting a strap to it. so that's wasted.

As you can see the nudgebar mounting plate is bolted (3x bolts) and welding to the chassis. The actual plate is 10mm thick.

So here's what I'm thinking. Would it be acceptable to bolt on hooks/eyelets to the inside of the bottom of the plate (where the actual nudge bar attaches)? If it seems ok to do that then I'll put them on the left and right side.
I realise that I will have to get new bolts as well, but would it be acceptable to use the existing 2x bolts or should I get another bolt put in between them as well?

Summing up: Can I attach recovery points to the nudge mounts and would I need to modify for extra bolts?

Just for reference here are the rear points. Will have to use twin snatches for this lot for safety. But they are super welded to the chassis, so no worries there.

Um. where did these recovery points come from? did you put them on? is this the new model Jim, cos it looks a bit different.

there is no recovery points on the Jimny from stock, they are TIE DOWN points only, as in... you're car is going to get blown off the side of a cargo ship or something like that. if you snatch from one you have a chance of killing someone.



Its a well known issue on here that its really difficult to get a decent recovery point on our rigs. theres a few different options which mainly focus around fitting bullbars and rear bars and using the recovery points on those.

Personally, i use the twin points on the front of my arb bar with a equalising strap to spread the load, and I dont really snatch, just sort of tow it out...
for the rear.... im working on it.... But i wouldnt use those things you have sticking out!!!!!! they look like piss. better pics maybe?

I have them on my 09 Jimny and would not recover off them. They are more tie down points, deffinently wouldnt snatch off them, but thats me.

Ah okay, must be a late-model thing then. yeah well if they are there from stock... they aint recovery points, front OR rear.


thats pretty much why the bodywork is "in the way" scorpion, its to stop people using it.
Google what happens to recoverys gone wrong..... and you'll know why I'm being a bit stern on the subject. Im not an expert on what you should have as I dont have them myself, but I DO know that what you have is not good for it.

Hmm..So you guys are saying that they are just tiedowns. The picture below shows the tiedown that is still on the front Left hand side.

So this is the rear bits...Thinking about it now those will probably be attachment points for the towbar because they are way to over-engineered for simple tiedowns.

Hey Scales thanks for the welcome. Be good to talk to people who know what they are on about.... :D

Vehicle was brought a little over a month ago with everything the way it is.

So back to these issues. More than likely get a Hayman-Reece for the rear (which I'd like to do anyway), that'll sort that side of things anyway.
But the big bug bear is with the front. So the hooks to the base of the nudge mount? If needed to go an actual bullbar the amount of work required to remove the existing nudge bar is going to be a huge expense (well for me anyway).
Or better solution...don't get stuck.

Yeah. Bolts and welds.
And never mind me saying that the rears could be for towbar attachment. Like I know what I'm talking about :oops:
All this will mean I have to stick to very basic track/beach work. But the little girl will do that comfortably anyway.... :peaceout:

Yeh like other said those are tie down points. Every jim has them including old ones too. Diference is that we have two in the front instead of that long hook thing.
The ones in the back yes, they are used to suport the tow bar. But just slight. At leas mine is attached into 4 points into the chassis plus into those two tie down points.
So yeh. Get a tow bar. As for the front theres other tread around with discussion. U can get a bullbar, create your own, buy a jap made one, or buy one from ORA if you are keeping ur bumper

The 2 points on the rear for the tow bar i would think would fine to snatch from they aren't tie down points they are structural points welded to the chassis for the attachment of the towbar would be plenty strong enough to snatch from, as for the silly little round bar loop on the front left of older jimnys you can almost bend that with your foot its purely just tiedown and if you're lucky flat ground towing.

Thanks for the input everyone. Muchly appreciated.

The rear will have a Hayman-Reece 50mm bar in the next couple of months.

The front is still a bit of a bitch as any of the eyelets I get will be interfered by the nudge bar. Will go a airbag rated bulbar eventually. Until then I will probably go a shovel and a set of Maxxtrax.

Put in a 4x 12v socket for the GPS, FM transmitter for the ipod and a usb charger for cameras/phones. Also got a Jumpstart with air-compressor (http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online ... 0601#Cross). Cheap so not really expecting the compressor to last for too long, But it will do until I get a proper setup.

I have been towed out 3 times using tie down points just take it easy. When they break off ill make some good ones.

being towed is not the same as being snatch from a muddy, sand, or any other situation....

also when "they break off", could mean is too late for someones windshield, car panel, window, seat, or even worse, someones live
